*Disclaimer, water-resistant condition is not a permanent status, also not protected under warranty
(I have a protection plan on my phone so 🤷♂️)
My buddy just found out that water doesn’t care the other day he was recording a video in the pool
Water =/= Salt Water
Chlorine also doesn’t give a fuck
If I can’t browse lemmy while I’m taking a bubble bath, what’s the point?
Hopefully it’s a decent protection plan and not a “pay for another phone in monthly payments then have to pay $150 deductible if you actually break your phone” kind of plan.
I love waterproof phones. I love that manufacturers can charge me almost as much as my phone is worth for a battery change, because of a feature I didn‘t ask for and I don‘t need at all.
Need to change battery? Here are some teardown guides: ifixit.com
For more easily replaceable batteries? You can get a Fairphone (www.fairphone.com) if water resistance is not important to you. Fairphone 4 is IP54 so it is somewhat water resistant, but not submerge-resistant. If you want repairability, you can get a fairphone.
There are also phones with both water-submerge resistance and replacible batteries (but not as repairable as a Fairphone): Samsung Galaxy xCover (https://www.samsung.com/us/business/mobile/phones/galaxy-xcover-pro/)
That‘s great and all but I don‘t buy new phones anymore. And the majority of phones aren‘t fairphones. I also avoid Samsung phones like the plague.
May I ask why you avoid Samsung? After trying out many different brands (currently using a Sony Xperia) I actually think Samsung might be the best option out there. There is always a big selection of cases and screen protectors available and the user experience is usually great. Not trying to advertise or anything, just curious.
