I had PTSD for months after a nightmarish bedbug situation in an old apartment. During the infestation I would barely get any sleep. I would dream that I was being consumed alive by millions of bugs and wake up in the middle of the night with welts. I’ll only wish bedbugs on the worst of landlords. They’re terrible. They’re cockroach mosquitoes that can’t starve.

The apocryphal story is that beds used to be supported/made of many ropes that would regularly need to be tightened to maintain form. So it was a reminder to snug up on these ropes.
