I think you probably need some professional help, and also I think the way you look at social media is very different from how others look at social media.

Reddit isn’t Wikipedia or any type of online encyclopedia. It’s social media. It’s Twitter, it’s Facebook, it’s TikTok, etc

I hate that “touch grass” is a common insult for something more people should be doing, which to go out into the world and get a technical detox.

I hope the author does step away. I’m concerned for their mental health.

I‘m autistic and I usually take „touch grass“ at face value and feel like the person wants me to feel better. I know that’s most likely not the case but it’s how my brain works.

        Edit: spelling

It’s ok to disagree with you. Just walk away and don’t take criticism or differing opinions as insults. People clearly don’t feel as strongly as you do and that’s ok. Hell, drop the account and get a new one if it will help you leave baggage behind. Best wishes, friend. Make a corner of the internet your own and be open to being changed.

Thanks! You and others have made some very insightful comments! The majority of comments and votes in this thread are clearly “organic from intelligent people who fled reddit because it was trash”.

I’m glad there are none from people with a clear agenda who asked GPT chat “how can I insult someone and attack them with ad hominems without breaking lemmy.world’s rules?”.

More and more I’m thinking that social media is just screwed. There is no viable alternative to the old reddit in sight. It’s all bots, special interest groups fighting for influence, and low-intelligence people sucking up mindless fluff content and regurgitating garbage.

I just hope you know people are actually downvoting you for being toxic, not because they’re bots or part of some greater conspiracy.

You’re just giving off big “I’m 17, always told I was gifted, and need to whine online whenever people don’t bow before my awe-inspiring intellect.” vibes.

You might be trolling, but if you’re not, you’re on a dangerous path to extreme loneliness, despair, inadequacy, and blaming everyone else for all your issues.

Are you sure YOU aren’t the bot?

Also you are like paranoid as fuck and it’s really messed up. You are being rude just because you aren’t getting what you want and having people tell you how right you are. You remind me of my sister who has a drug addiction problem and schizophrenia. You really should try to seek help if you are able or maybe just actually find a real world hobby to focus on for a while.

Because their algorithm has deduced that reddit results will get clicks. That is always the reason for everything engines do.

The more clicks it gets, the higher a result rises. Year, after year, after year. Every click is tracked. Every last one.

I imagine it began with specific questions and answers. Since reddit is the largest internet forum, anyone who has a somewhat obscure question needs a place to ask it. When someone else then punches that question into google, it’ll go to the only place it’s been answered so far, that niche internet forum.

Consider a video game question. “What build in whatever game is best for X?” Someone who wonders will ask in a game forum for that game. Every person after that, who wants that same information, will then be directed to where it now exists online–that post.

Also common with tech questions. “What does this error window mean and how do I fix it? My hardware is such-and-such and I’m running whatever version of the software” type questions.

For how long this is, it’s very confusing. Some links also didn’t work. This reads like someone who is way overly invested in their reddit account though. Like, I doubt you’ll find any lawyer in the US who will go to bat over you getting banned. Privately owned (as in not government-owned, so regardless of any possible IPOs in the future) companies have freedom of speech which gives them the right to censor whoever and however they want. We don’t need to like it, but it is what it is. I’m personally ok with them being allowed to censor whatever they want because I don’t want to get into the mess of the government defining what speech is or isn’t against the law. I’d be maybe ok with drawing a line on incitement and/or active assistance to violate laws or another’s rights, but that’s about it. But there is no right to have speech or say what you want on someone else’s platform.

Does this make reddit dangerous? Absolutely not.

    You did learn a lesson.

Don’t pour yourself into work that someone else owns. You can easily lose it.

It sounds like it was a harsh lesson for you. I sympathize. But I don’t know what else you expect from a for-profit corporation.

You’re on an alternative. They already exist. You’re also preaching to people who already agree alternatives are important.

Edit: added a word for clarity because some people can’t carry context from one sentence to another.

The admins are the worst but honestly 80% of the reddit mods are absolute trash, too. They may be volunteers working hard for free, but they are addicted to their “power” and will do anything (including humiliate themselves and lick admin boots) to hang on to that “power”. It’s beyond pathetic.

Worse, they have a serious “uber mod” problem, where a small number of moderators lord their “power” over multiple popular subs. The general rule on there is, the more popular a sub is, the worse it will be.

Reddit was once a treasure trove of information…but that once valuable hoard is swarmed over by goblins and trolls.

It’s interesting that whenever I post about this on any site there’s always at least one person who shows up to post random pro-reddit lies. Such as “you were banned for spreading misinformation” or “you were banned for account sharing because you used the same email across multiple accounts”, along with various other insults of course.

The pro-reddit astroturfing on reddit was quite blatant during the recent API protests, but Reddit’s tentacles are far-reaching to other sites as well.

You are not the only one to think these thoughts. Check out the article linked here if you want a fascinating read - I could not put it down! Except I had to, for breakfast then work, but doing so really bugged me!:-P It was just so PERFECTLY aligned with what I had been thinking myself also, which the Reddit protests had spawned in me: in short, Reddit’s actions were evil, but it may have done us a lot of good actually… if we pay attention and learn from it all. i.e., the problem was never Reddit, but inside of us all along. Okay so Reddit is also a problem - or a whole series of them actually:-P - but also it is our natural inclination to go that “easy” route, which for-profit corporations are very much looking to exploit, but also there are free ways to reach that same end (which is not a good end).

It probably depends on the magazine… but yeah, people are still people:-).

A lot of the contributors to Reddit refuse to move to Lemmy/Kbin, and at this point I do not blame them - e.g. my notifications have not been working for over a week now, plus ~80% of the time whenever I try to upvote or boost something, it forgets who I am and I have to login again (actually it’s not a probability thing: it seems if I do something within seconds of visiting a page it always works, while after a threshold is passed then it never works). Plus on kbin.social at least I believe there are no moderation tools at all. Given how hard I’m being trolled on Reddit (b/c I did not kowtow to a hardcore cadre of power aboosers), I could only imagine how horrible the experience would be if even mods could not remove things? (or… something? easily? at all? I do not know the details) This technology just was never ready for deployment at this stage, and especially kbin.social still seems to be in the alpha software stage. Ofc, even so I am still enjoying it more than Reddit, whenever I do get to speak with an intelligent person, like now:-).

Like, that in combination with everything else you wrote just makes it seem like mad ramblings and sort of discounts anything you have to say since you’re leading an angry rant with “put someone else’s poop in your butt”.

And then when you say you’ve been banned from multiple sites and it’s all a grand conspiracy from Reddit to be out to get you, people are just going to think “this guy opened the article by suggesting you shove someone else’s poop in your butt.”

You may be right. It may just be a bunch of immature teenagers in here who can’t stop giggling and concentrate on anything after someone alluded to the topic of “poop”.

How unfortunate that this is what the internet has become.

Though based on the gaslighting, systematic downvotes, and insults, it doesn’t seem likely that the activity in this thread is organic at all; even from immature teenagers.

Uh no it’s people that found your post on all because Lemmy doesn’t have that much going on still and is struggling to point out to the person that is having a mental breakdown the extent of their disconnect with reality.

Some people have patched onto that but you are showing no sign of being willing or able to take criticism and you are making false logical jumps that everyone that disagrees with you must be some shit headed teenager because you have no grasp of a reality outside your own.

                You have seriously disconnected.
Seriously I have the same conversations with my sister who suffers pretty badly from schizophrenia. When she’s off her medication she does the same things and talk about how the internet is full of kids trying to hurt her while she refuses to go to the doctor because she thinks they are FBI agents trying to steal her other kidney.

It’s a complete disconnect that you think everyone is specifically after you. I just care cause I see this in family I can’t help and probably none of us can help you either but seek help.

No one in here really cares enough to brigade you and no one cares a fuck who you are. I just dislike seeing this kind of mental delusions because of personal reasons. Best of luck to you and hope you get better.

As much as I hate to agree about anything with this ridiculous person, they’re not completely wrong. There’s well documented evidence that the microbial flora in your gut can affect the way you think. Can it suddenly make you happy after a lifetime of misery? I sincerely doubt it. Here’s a better example. Let’s say your favorite food are strawberry poptarts and you eat a box or two a day. Your gut is probably full microbes that love to break down everything about strawberry pop-tarts. If you start to eat broccoli and cheddar baked potatoes instead pop-tarts, your microbes that like pop-tarts will begin to starve and start sending signals to their cousins in your brain. Suddenly you have desperate cravings for strawberry pop-tarts. This will continue until you eat pop-tarts or until the pop-tarts loving population is reduced through starvation and replaced with other microbes that love potatoes broccoli and cheese.

I remember loving the taste of certain artificially sweetened things like a Wendy’s Frosty. Now, when I try them, I do not get any pleasure from it and I can clearly taste his the sweetness is chemical and gross. That’s because I no longer have trillions of microbes yelling at my brain that artificial flavoring is the best thing ever. It’s weird as fuck.

All that said, there’s a gap the size of the Grand Canyon between craving control and mental health manipulation. OP be out there with a hand glider trying to make that leap.

Why are you accusing me of being a ridiculous person?

This is simply ignorance on your end. As I mentioned in a previous comment, there’s a link included to more information. Feel free to click on it and learn something new. It’s pretty disappointing to see Lemmy users exhibiting many of the worst behaviors of people on reddit – i.e. overconfident willful ignorance.

will you make a post on your blog complaining that no one on lemmy want your poop, and then post it on reddit?

Given that nothing about this post or the blog had anything to do with “offering people my poop”, I’m more likely to make a post complaining that Lemmy is full of astroturfing and/or extremely unintelligent people. Certainly in no way an improvement over reddit.

I mean there are studies linking various brain stuff with gut microbiome. It’s actually a thing backed by actual science. I didn’t read the blog though so I don’t know what they said in context and…well I kind of don’t care.

It’s a lot of incoherent misrepresenting of facts and tangential connections that seem really indicative of disorganized speech/thinking.

At least from the bit I skimmed…
