this almost certainly falls into a weird middle ground of “virtue signal that even he knows is not realistic, but which also speaks to the legitimate opinion of many Republican voters and elites probably including himself”. DeSantis is many things–but ignorant is not one of them.
Oh he’s definitely in the virtue signaling end of his business. He keeps pushing laws that he knows damn well are unconstitutional but they sure rile the base.
- Step 1: defund government agencies
- Step 2: point to “how poorly the government runs”
- Step 3: campaign on the platform that big government is bad
- Step 4: repeat until the world is a fireball
So without the IRS why would anyone pay taxes and then how would the country continue to exist?
He would probably just pull a Comcast and rename the IRS to something catchier but more invasive to the lesser communities
