Considering most of them are aging boomers and gen-x, I don’t see that going too well. What are they going to do? Toss their Molotov cocktails and throw their backs out? Hobble down the street in their walkers and mobility scooters? Ridiculous.

Hopefully the capitol police has been trained since they were overwhelmed by a hoard of chuds and geriatrics 4 years ago.

Still to this day the only time I’ve ever seen riot control tools used to spec instead of fired in volleys at head level.

What has baffled me the most since yesterday was a vox pop airing on a local (canadian) channel. The journalist had travelled shortly south of the border to Plattsburgh, which is historically blue but has recently been more tight. How the casual Trump supporters remained unfazed was chilling.

One slick office lady explained calmly how the recent judicial events did not relate to Trump’s proposed politics and that therefore it didn’t change her voting intention. Another woman would explain how she prefers to vote for someone honest who speaks his mind, someone that was never involved in politics, so that’s why she’s still intending to vote for Trump (her husband had voted for Biden last election and had apparently regretted it).

It’s somehow way more shocking to witness some very average sounding and looking person make so little sense. Is it the average American news sources messing with people’s minds that much?

What’s the media going to report on? Outrage click bait or someone average saying average things? Not to say extremist are not real but extremists are disproportionately reported compared to majority views which skews our perceptions. How much is done on purpose or as a result of the news business, I can’t judge but biased sources pick up on the parts they like and amplify them or even manipulate them to tell the story that want to tell.

I do truly believe that for the vast majority of people, we are closer in that the things we collectively believe than we do not. But it doesn’t take many devoted people to whip up a mindless mob.

I’d estimate that 98% of American news sources are either very biased or straight up propaganda machines. I can only rely on National Public Radio and The Associated Press.

Man, it’s been wild seeing fascism growing over the past decade. I mean, it was always around, but it’s really gotten worse. The trouble is I have no idea how you would even begin to resolve the issue.

Like you have people wanting to kill American liberals (which is hilarious because politically the American democrats are not even close to being leftist or the big boogieman, “communist”).

It really seems like you have a very large group of uneducated and violent people who think Trump will allow them to fulfill their fantasies of control over others. The pain in the ass is that their ideology is spreading globally.

…I have no idea how you would even begin to resolve the issue.

For now, we must encourage all of the younger people to vote. The younger people are, understandably, frustrated by the current American political system. It can be changed with more participation over time. Doing nothing (not voting, etc.) just worsens the problem.

The far right GOP knows all of this and makes it difficult for anyone to vote. They use tactics such as gaslighting in order to cheat their way into office.

That would hopefully prevent a bad government, but I’m not sure how to actually resolve the ideological issue. People who hold those beliefs won’t stop believing them. At least not quickly.

I’m not sure how you would make them see reason and reduce extremist beliefs. Otherwise, we’re just constantly trying to deal with a sick population

The US police force is full of sociopaths. But I like to believe that there are at least a few sincere officers in there. They are the ones who are really going to pay for such acts. The Capitol Hill insurrection is a good example.

They’re completely unhinged and detached from reality, the rule of law, and democracy.
