Huh? That guy is cool because of his lore and his attitude. We don’t care if he is male, female an alien or whatever. We don’t care if he won a medal, a diploma or a 5$ discount on a supermarket.
He is relevant because this guy went shooting into an olimpic event with a normal guy vibe wearing his prescription glasses and one hand in the pocket, while other olimpic teams wear all kind of complex sighting aparatus for this events. Plus his story lore of how he became olimpic shooter is hilarious.
His teamate could be Erdogan, Beyonce, Taylor Swift. NOT RELEVANT.
It was literally a team event and one of the things that makes the bit funny is how “he” won silver. In fact, that’s the entire thing this story hinges on, performing well.
In a team event.
Nice self-reporting your misogyny though, and I’m sorry your mind fails to draw a single independent conclusion from this meme.
This isn’t me being misogynistic but had his teammate done better they’d have won gold, she brought the score down, he actually shot better than both of the winners.
This is not to say she wasn’t qualified for this, in fact I believe her previous track record is better than his
When I shot in highschool it was a team event while also individual. So your team’s score is the summation of the individuals scores (pre-finals).
(Finals is like an extra portion for the top few competitors. Your score in finals is added and that’s your total. It was added to make the sport more spectator friendly. When I shot it was just 10 extra shots but shortly after I stopped it was changed to top 8 shooting one shot at a time and lowest shot gets eliminated. I believe this is still the case based on pictures I saw of the two finalists shooting side by side alone.)
So it’s possible he won silver as individual and the team didn’t win or also got silver. I haven’t actually looked into the Olympic rules or results but that’s how it was when I shot competitively.
Edit: Looks like 10 meter air pistol categories individual men, individual women, and mixed team are all run at different times. So it was only as a team that they won silver. I don’t know about the individual results of the team competition, but regardless it wouldn’t have earned a medal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics
Yeah, we should never consider reasoning as a human quality. Social media platforms tend to remove that. I thought Lemmy was different. Well I guess it depends on the instance.
I know this is increasingly accepted, but ‘female’ is actually an adjective. You could say ‘has a female athlete’ or even just ‘has a lady’, but the current wording is a bit off.
To be fair, in English most adjectives can also be used as nouns. I suppose I should have said that in this context, using it as an adjective is inappropriate.
Normally “female” is more used in clinical settings or about not-human animals. One reason it gives off incel energy is it reduces a person to what genitals they have.
First I read about it from a comment was that he was trying to prove his Ex-Wife wrong that he can make something of himself. But it didn’t mention is that he joined the Gendarmerie of Turkey, which is a police type force in rural areas and other places in the country.
I don’t want to lower his achievements but he’s just a cop who obviously did well in his shooting practice and turned that into a silver medal. He isn’t a hitman like the memes are saying.
It is not really “higher” than police and it is not regular military. The gendarmerie in Turkey is responsible for policing outside cities, they are part of the military, but they are subordinate to the interior ministry during peace times (regular military answers to the defence ministry).
This man showed up to compete in the Olympics after his son was assaulted by a wild pack of turkish trans furry democrats. His Turkish sons last words were"Baba, şimdi dinlenmem gerek. Bu trans demokrat kürklerin bugün kazandı ama sen benim ölümümü intikamını almak için Olimpiyatlarda kazanacaksın, baba. Bana ya özgürlük ver ya da ölüm." -New York Post

So what? He has a female in his team? Okay.

I thought it hinged on the ‘baller move’, then getting a silver.
Since you seem invested in the Olympics, what was his score?
Oh you watch the Olympics name all the medals 🤓 vibe
Gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal
Damn you got stamped on for simply explaining why people cared about A and not B.
Hilarious place.

This seems to have triggered you out of nowhere. You okay?
I had never seen that many down votes on Lemmy, good job
I thought it was to dunk on the Asian teams

Gendarmerie is part of the military, higher than police. And he was a sergeant. He’s part of both the national team and the national army team.

Compared to what it takes to become a policeman in the US, it’s definitely a higher level of training. Hard to find a direct US equivalent.
Don’t know about the police. I was comparing inside turkey, where there is the Police for urban areas and the Jandarma (Gendarmerie) for rural areas.
Pretty sure that ex wife thing is just a meme. He’s got competition results dating back more than 20 years from a look at his wikipedia page
