Yes, the old testament has some ethically bad things in it, all Abrahamic religions share that. I’m also atheist. I just don’t make a point of commenting “fictional character” on a meme that happens to use the word “god”, not even capitalized lmao. Perhaps you aren’t aware of how much of a militant atheist you come off as. Out of curiosity, have you ever put the bible in the fiction section?
I would never read an innocuous meme comment condemning slavery and think “ah yes, time to make a point about religion being fake and bad”.
No, i haven’t ever put the bible in the fiction section (though i would consider it honestly hilarious). That part at the end wasn’t really intended from the first moment i thought of replying to your comment, i added it mainly as a (somewhat offensive) joke. My trail of thought was that considering what’s written in the old testament, what is currently happening wouldn’t mean that we are “straying away from god’s light”, instead getting society (or at least Florida) closer to the morals of the old version of the deity.
I wouldn’t consider myself a militant atheist as much as an agnostic maltheist or dystheist. The comment that it’s fictional is more of a joke i added, knowing how riled up some can get regarding the topic. I haven’t ever placed that book in the fictional section, as i don’t visit libraries all that often, however i would certainly consider it hilarious.
