The Republican leader was silent for more than 30 seconds after he was asked whether he will run for re-election. He froze at a news conference in July.
GOP stands for “Grand Old Party”, which is a nickname for the Republican Party in the United States.
MAGA is an acronym which stands for “Make America Great Again”, and was used by Trump during his run for the presidency. It has since been used to indicate those that follow Trump and his policies.
Just to further clarify, MAGA was originally used by Ronald Reagan (and later Bill Clinton)… it’s just another thing recycled by the orange guy who has no ideas of his own.
To clarify even further, there was a failed painter in 1930s Germany who ran on the same slogan (except “Deutschland” not “America”). Also used the whole “fake news” thing (or “lugenpresse” in that case)
Can you please ELI5 what GOP and MAGA mean?

…I wonder how things turned out with that guy.
GOP = Republican Party
MAGA = Trumpists traitor branch of the party
To be clear, the GOP is also heavily composed of traitors.
Sure, but the GOP is merely a traitor to the American people. MAGA tops that by being traitor even to the GOP.
But not in an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” sort of way. Not in the slightest.
