I didn’t use the catchphrase I think you’re referring to (Eric Andre?) but even if I did…the post I replied to is a generic catchphrase meme…so your point is kind of moot lol

The post title is the new mantra since the Reddit exodus, connected to very relevant content. It’s not just a low quality comment void of any nuance and designed solely to capture upvotes from the lowest common denominator…kinda like what they do on Reddit.

Dude, that’s exactly what this post is lol

Reddit sucks and we all know it. That’s why the majority of us are here

I think that ship has sailed. Lemmy is already full of the worst parts of the reddit community (garbage memes that never die)

I didn’t? I sarcastically called this meme bold and brave. I guess I should have pulled up a thesaurus and searched around to make sure nobody had ever said it before, my bad!

Catchphrases have cultural significance of having a shared understanding of the intent, both delivered straight and ironically. Your attitude is not conducive to a shared experience.

Or are you suggesting that you never use quotes of any kind, regardless of the source?

I’m suggesting that using a catchphrase as just a generic comment that could essentially be used on any meme is a low effort attempt at gaining reputation points. There was no message conveyed with it, no value was imparted to the discussion, and now we’re talking about how I’m the one with the non-conducive attitude and not about the actual subject…

It’s interpretable as a sarcastic response to someone taking a position against Spez, catchphrase or no. This doesn’t seem hard to understand.

Do you have the same issues with people who learn Valspeak or AAVE?

I’ve already specified the type of comment that I’m referring to. Trying to drag this discussion into a direction where you can more easily win doesn’t actually prove your point.
