It’s sad really. This post was the final straw for me. I’ll be unsubscribing. I saw the same thing happen dankmemes. Post after post of politically charged, right leaning nonsense. My tinfoil hat says it’s intentional to kill Lemmy, and honestly it’s working.
- It’s not right leaning
- You unsubbing is not going to kill Lemmy
Lemmy was already dying, just look at plots of active users since the Reddit API flap. It’s going down not up. The sooner it does, the sooner a stronger decentralized platform, or newer version of Lemmy, can take it’s place. It’s current iteration is a rickety Reddit clone that suffers from rolling defederation.
…right leaning?
Yes, this post when interpreted as ironic, is making fun of socialism and CRT. Regardless it is leveraging oft used conservative boogeymen buzzwords for a joke. It dilutes the original use of the words, and whether or not intended, degrades their meaning. It’s a very common tactic of fascism and hard right actors. It’s exactly what Trump did when assuming the ‘fake news’ moniker and repurposing it to attack media. This entire site has been circling the drain for some time, and the downvotes just prove none of you value actual discussion.
To be honest it sounds like you don’t want people to mock conservatives, and that’s a tough ask when they make it so easy.
Sort of. I’m saying mocking only lowers the overall dialogue into the shitter, which doesn’t serve the purpose you think. It may make you feel morally superior, but does nothing to fix the issue, and arguably further entrenches the two sides.
I think you’re alienating your allies here. This is clearly intended to be left leaning, and you’re lumping OP with Trump and facists.
No. I’m saying OP is playing right into their hands, liberal or whatever they are.
Okay, so, I am reading what you’re saying, and I don’t really know how one could make a joke that isn’t, by your understanding, part of the conservative agenda.
And if that’s what you think, I am curious why you’re looking at memes at all.
There’s a universe of thing’s worth joking about, but this post just serves political agendas, mostly right wing ones, and isn’t funny. CRT has become such a punching bag it’s lost all meaning. I’ve had the experience of my (very different) field of study becoming a political football, and the end result was the field suffering for years afterwards. Those setbacks are due to the right wing of political discourse choosing to meme the subject and make it political. The very act of targeting it was the main transgression, but subsequent meming on both sides only dragged things down further.
So, telling people to not try and be funny, even those you agree with, is definitely alienating your allies. I hear what you’re saying, but I have also seen parents losing their ever loving shit at PTA meetings… And to say that everyone must treat those ignorant displays with quiet respect, because CRT was mentioned… Seems a bit beyond the pale.
Critical race theory, assuming you’re not a clown.
What are you on and where can I get some
The downvotes only validate I’m right that this site is in the shitter. You just assume because the message is liberal, it doesn’t play into right leaning agendas.
Aged like milk
You missed the part where they said, “No I don’t, but I’ll ruin your life if you teach it!”
It’s only taught in higher ed, so this clearly didn’t happen. /s
Can we make c/politicalmemes and keep this sort of content there? It’s clearly a point of division in the community, we should be more accommodating for apolitical folks.
Aw man but I have so many funny X-Men posts to make.
Ah yes, the political issue of education and racism.
Yes but where’s the meme? All I see is a smarmy quip, there’s no joke, there’s not even a picture. It’s just a screenshot of text.
Even if you agree with the subject matter, you have to admit this is terribly low effort and low quality as far as memes go.
…
Yes?
There’s no such thing as ‘apolitical’. The very idea of leaving politics to our superior politicians is what brought us and keeps us in this state.
This is not at all a political issue however. This is about not being a trash human being. Being racist is not a political opinion, it’s spreading hatred in the world and being a waste of skin.
I’m not arguing for or against of what the post says, I’m only saying that the designated place for funny cat pictures is probably not the right place for a meaningful discussion, sharing opinions, education or anything else but funny cat pictures.
When i browse c/memes I want to see easily digestible posts that will make me exhale through my nose, not deep, thought provoking walls of text.
If you think this post is deep and thought provoking then I don’t know what to tell you. It just makes fun of american conservatives and that’s it. This post is literally just “conservatives dumb”, as easily digestible as I’ve ever seen.
Then c/politicalmemes would be a perfect place for conservatives and progressives to call each other dumb and let everyone else on c/memes enjoy their funny cats.
I’d rather not have a bunch of separate meme communities. I like varied content.
Then you could subscribe to both communities. Think of it as having a separate category for gay and straight porn, some people are into both, some into one or the other, some into neither and because it’s in its own category everyone can pick exactly what they want to see.
If porn was only categorised by gender and orientation that would be great, but it’s not. There’s a million obscure communities for every single aspect of every fetish, and there’s usually zero way to include everything but feet and piss. It takes so much effort to find something fresh because you have to intentionally look up skirts, or lesbian domination, or voyeurism or what have you.
Maybe something you’d like is in feet, because of a brief under the table socks on tease, and that’s just a tragedy because that’s just fine.
Sometimes there are comments that I wish I could upvote multiple times, this is one of them.
It brings me no joy to say this, but everything is political.
What is political about critical race theory? Is math also political?
Is math also political?
Yes. Statistics for example gets politicized all the time, remember when Trump said not to monitor for covid because monitoring it will only find more cases?
Also, possibly the most classic example of misuse of statistics in politics is the assertion of “statistics show black people commit more crimes per capita than white people.” When in reality, black people in the West have much lower median incomes than white people due to their long history of facing marginalization and descrimination, and it’s income that is correlated to crime, not race. We know this because when you normalize for income, there is no difference in crime rates yet that fallacious statistic gets brought up by racists again and again to justify their racism.

9 hours old, +600 upvotes, no comments.🤔 And you came here for this lousy comment…
seems to be a federation issue for you, I see 90+ comments (reported by client, not counted), earliest from 9h ago
Wow which server are you in I only see 5 comments.
reddthat.com.
you should also see that when you click my name, if it doesn’t already show it on my name.to be fair, iirc it was only a total of 3 comment threads at the time, where two were started by lemmy.world users and one by a hexbear.net user. as those instances are on your instances block list, that would enough to hide the entire comment threads I believe.
“Conservative Christian” is and oxymoron but having never read any Jesus, its easy to identify that way.
First of all you don’t become a conservative Christian by being willing to read. So lets imagine DeSantis misspoke and said “The only way to ensure that Trump can violate The Constitution and overthrow our democracy is to read the New Testament and understand it”
Here are some probable outcomes:
- They see that Jesus is a leftist and can no longer call themselves Christian, when asked their religion they say “none, atheiest”.
- They see that Jesus is a leftist and conclude that the bible was simply written by leftists and that it isn’t true.
- They see that Jesus has good ideas, unconsciously redefine what conservative means to them, and stay quiet until someone they considerd a friend angrily calles them a libtard for stating one of jesuses teachings in disagreement of something thet had repeated from facebook.
- They see that Jesus is a leftist, they trust in their lord choosing his love and reason over the hatred and fear of man and can no longer call themselves a conservative.
- They conclude that Pontius Pilate and the Roman government where the good guys and Jesus was an evil libtard who earned his crusofiction and they start worshoping Pilate instead.
- The whole thing goes over the readers head
- They strengthen their belief by ignoring parts that clearly don’t fit their belief, and twisting anything that can kind of fit their beliefs.
Conservatives Christians really think this image of Jesus is about him going into the temple to throw out all the woke they/them liberals using the lord’s house to eat avocado toast and complain about climate change or some shit
Y’all have that as an emoji on Hexbear?
We love to interpret Jesus as an proto-anarchist terrorist on hexbear.
Yeah we have a ton of really obscure ones that are barely ever used because we’ve been adding to the list for the last three years, iirc we had around ~1150 before federation but since then we’ve added a load more so idk how many we’ve got now

How conservative christians became the greatest opponent of environmentalism will likely forever remain a mystery for me. If there is one thing worth conserving it would be gods creation surely?
Unfortunately a literal reading of Genesis 1:28 says to subdue the Earth (master or control in a few translations, and use all the resources for God’s purpose in one). Those trying to paint a nicer picture might change it to being stewards of the planet (which is what I always heard as a kid), but that’s not what’s there. To be fair, it was written in a time where the world seemed endless and humans couldn’t possibly destroy everything, a mindset that lasts to this very day. Even less than a century ago we were okay with dumping stuff into the water or burying it, or burning things because it was a huge world and the smoke disappeared into the sky.
The really wild one is the Ann Coulter reading:
“God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, “Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.”
(Referring to Dominionism and Genesis 1:28, on Hannity & Colmes, 20 June 2001)
Same way they can look at the metaphor for capitalists are destined for hell a la stuffing a camel through the eye of a needle unharmed - by choosing to interpret the eye of a needle to actually mean a gate arch or some shit.
Instead of changing yourself to follow the beliefs in the word of your God, you change your God’s words to follow your beliefs.
And a lot of anti-environmentalists are hunters and farmers. Like… ¿¿¿What???
Well, on the one hand, you have an old book you might read all the way through once (but probably not) that says to be responsible stewards of the earth. But on the other hand, you have people on the TV every night telling you to support whatever makes corporations the most money.
Old ideas can have value but it’s hard to compete with new ideas when those new ideas have a lot more money and can be crafted to appeal to a specific audience (regardless of what’s true).
The prosperity gospel teaches that you are given what you have as a blessing, and that it is meant for you to consume or amass power with as you please. Essentially, because you can, you are entitled to.
Conversely the disadvantaged in this worldview deserve punishment because their disadvantages make them sinners.
A chunk of my extended family buys into this and it is part of why I don’t ever visit them anymore. A couple of them listen to radio stations that preach this 24/7. Grandma was really religious and was the kind of person to hire immigrants, underpay them, then complain about immigrants being moneyless sinners. That side of the family amazes me…
It is the epitome of feels before reals.
Well that’s Calvinists for you. I don’t know why anyone ever listened to that guy but I sure wish they would stop
There was a study linked around somewhere in the last few days that said that political ideology was a greater factor in people’s religious choices than the inverse.
I always figured their reply would be “Well, if the environment is going to shit that that’s what God wants. Don’t question his master plan. He only does things or let’s things happen for a reason.”
“the earth was always meant to be temporary” is one I heard. Which for one thing rests on some heavy assumptions but also it is murder according the Jesus to be ok with your actions killing some farmer in Angola
I remember watching a news report a few years ago where a bunch of people were basically saying exactly that.
The faster we ruin the earth the closer we get to the apocalypse the sooner Christ returns and Yadda Yadda Yadda or some shit.
Because that would require a modicum of critical reasoning and the willingness to occasionally and ever-so-slightly sacrifice for the benefit of others.
Just remember that the group you’re describing are conservatives first and foremost. Christianity and the GOP are just their current excuses for their selfishness.
You’re right. They have their bubble. Nothing else matters.
yeah but if they actually read the Bible they would probably notice that they are exactly the same people as the pharisees
Worse actually, for all their faults I still got the impression that the Pharisees at least tried keeping all the laws.
