The only reason why we all used third party apps for Reddit, is because their app and website is abhorrent trash. It’s great to have a choice, but Lemmy’s website is smooth to use. I know it’s mind blowing not to use a app for everything in 2023 but Lemmy just works.

Commenting from Kbin on Firefox, where I have to rotate my phone to landscape orientation to read full comments. If I keep it in portrait, some comments will randomly run off the side of my view, and zooming out doesn’t help.

It’s not perfect. I’m very much hanging in there until some sort of upgrade comes along. Lemmy.world has been unable to get me signed in, so there’s that.

Same here on a lower end Samsung, it’s fine. IMHO I also think if people flock to apps for just a UI, it can take away some of the motivation to improve a site.

That isn’t the only reason tbh. Sometimes different apps can completely alter how we use the service. There already exist some apps that do Lemmy better than Lemmy itself and this will continue to grow. Hence everyone asking for apps

Tangentially, does anyone know why we stopped having cool words for different kinds of software? We used to have daemons and wizards. Now everything’s an app, and it’s lame.

Poorer vocabulary results in a cruder world model. Both a cause and effect of general decline of mental facilities.

personally it’s more convenient if there’s a mobile app, so I’m using Liftoff right now, until Sync, Artemis or Boost release 😀

But why though? What does an app get you that you can’t get by pinning the site to your home screen?
