Threads is the answer to the question: “What if we took Instagram’s comment section and just made THAT the new Twitter?”
Enjoy and thanks for reblogs & shares! @fediverse

Why don’t you use the title of your article as a title for this post?
fixed! Posted via Mastodon, forgot the title grabs from the first line only.
I think because it’s actually a Mastodon post, Lemmy renders the first line as the post title because Mastodon doesnt have titles
How does one post from mastodon to a lemmy community?
@authorinthedark@lemmy.sdf.org
super easy!! all you do is tag the community you want to post to!
I share music on Alternative Nation on Lemmy by tagging the community.
shared how here https://lemmy.world/post/1023812Thanks, I’ll try
no idea, if I had to guess it’s the @fediverse tag in the body
@renwillis @fediverse Really disappointed to see AOC jumping right on Threads and not even bothering with Mastodon. That seems rather unlike her, really.
I would’ve thought so, but the speed she jumped on Bluesky was pretty telling too. I love AOC but she’s definitely only going to go where “the normies” or “cool kids” go. Regardless of how problematic they are… She’s still on Twitter after all.
A mastodon admin (I think) spoke about their attempt to get her on Mastodon. The story was that she wanted to be where her audience are. And, IIRC, there was some concern over how Mastodon has treated BIPOC.
Now that’s all a vague memory of some hearsay, but it all also completely tracks. There are plenty of BIPOC on Masto talking about how it isn’t great for them.
Wait how has Maatodon treated BIPOC? Is this about the users or a particular instance? Frankly I had never heard about this, I frequently use mastodon and it’s really welcoming of queer people (I feel overall, but at the very least it is true comparedd with the rest of social media) so I didn’t think there would be an issue with POC.
I’m not the right person to talk to. You should find the vocal BIPOC on masto.
But overall, mastodon is pretty white, in part because of the relative Euro-centrism of the place. And so whenever anti-BIPOC issues come up there is apparently a good deal of awkward defensiveness and silencing that goes on.
Beyond that, while there are trans/LGBT safe instances etc, no such thing really exists for BIPOC and the best attempt at one was shut down because, IIRC, of abuse issues. So generally, BIPOC people feel that their safety isn’t catered to well by admins and the software at a system wide level. A major issue being how a new BIPOC can sign up without worrying about getting abused on their new instance.
These are just my vague impressions though as a white person.
Structurally though, it kinda tracks, because mastodon is a pretty quiet suburban like platform while I sense that BIPOC rely on connecting with their community online. From what I can tell, white trans/LGBT people find safety on mastodon by finding smaller safe instances with defensive moderation and defederstion strategies. That hasn’t happened for BIPOC and may not work either (???)
Interesting … two downvotes out of 9. I think this is what BIPOC people try to talk about … this issue seems to just prompt some ire from some people.
@maegul that’s a shame. I think Mastodon is far more inline with her ideals. I understand, as a politician, wanting to be where her audience is but shunning Mastodon entirely seems like an unusual choice.
I can’t speak for the mistreatment part. If BIPOC say this is the case, I believe them. I hope we have improved since then.
It’s an interesting question though … is it really inline with her ideals?
As a left wing politician, however much she cares about social justice and bringing down bad capitalism, she may not care too much for decentralised social media software that isn’t the easiest to use or understand.
To her, the “town square”, even if it is owned or funded by evil people, so long as the people are there, might be a good thing.

@kinyutaka @fediverse haha! woof!
@renwillis @fediverse If you migrate to and from, and I have threads.net blocked, will we disconnect? 🤔
@Defiance @fediverse not sure! But I’d find you again.
And honestly, I’m dubious they’ll actually allow migration.
Until then, I’ll use Threads to spread the good word on the Fediverse!
@renwillis @fediverse Yeah, me too. I don’t see why they’d allow migration. They’re not even federated yet lol 🤷♂️
@renwillis @fediverse yes! that’s what it is. Instagram comments but a dedicated app. that’s why you can’t do hashtags, that’s why you can’t search post content. it is a rushed half baked copy paste of the comment section
So you gave them all your data just to write this article that it sucks?

Oh fuck, I hate instagram, and I don’t want to see the “intellectual opinions” of my fucking dumb-wit acquaintances who will try hard enough to be viral on a new platform for straight up a month by commenting on everything.
Speaking of sucking… Medium is on the blacklist.
Just replace “medium.com” with “scribe.rip” in any medium url and you are good to go (for now).
awww… why? they all federated and shit!
I shouldn’t have generalized, my bad. Let me rephrase: they are on my blacklist. Mainly because I get jumped by popups every time I try and focus to read something nice somebody wrote there…
totally fair.
Yeah as soon as you click it there’s a big pop-up. I will avoid sites that do that to me. You can annoy me without taking up the entire screen. Please do that instead lol
Came here to say this. I never read a thing on medium
@renwillis @fediverse Pretty spot on critique of Threads. I signed up with it last night and found some people I follow on IG, but otherwise it’s like being dropped in the middle of a big city where you don’t know anyone.

Just read this - I reckon I’m gonna have to follow you now! Thanks for exploring threads so I don’t have too!
@renwillis Another pretentious fediverse user?! Shocking!
@Jeze3D @fediverse pretentious?
Not sure if you read the article, but I’m originally an Instagram user.
@renwillis I mean that doesn’t mean you’re not being pretentious and bandwagoning.
