I dont get it
I think everyone is confused because in the title it says “im installing an hdd to replace an ssd” and in the post it says “ordered an nvme” so now im wondering what you are actually doing? Did the seller specify it would have an “nvme ssd” or just “ssd”?
just ssd. I’m the moron and I accept it. Looking up the SSD model the only results were people complaining about how it was in their refurb systems and it failing after like 6 months. It mildly infuriated me, that’s why I posted it. That was probably a mistake but I’ll own it.
Awareness is good, like videos about don’t buy Dell RGB i5-2XXX to play fortnite are good.
7h past or not, you can still edit the post to better convey the frustration part.
So what’s the frustration here? That it didn’t have 256Gb? I can’t see it in the photo.
it was a SATA 2.5" drive occupying where I wanted the HDD. I assumed a PC that shipped with a NVMe drive would have one. Slot was empty. Apparently the drive is a piece of shit which I expected by being offbrand, but I thought it was a NVMe. Windows must have told it to me and I just missed it.
I still don’t get it. That sata is still an SSD…
In general these are shipped with an NVMe and then the expansion slot is for a 2.5 inch sata sdd. So this has been modified at some point and the seller probably should have stated.
it’s a ‘refurb’, listings for those by third-party sellers are usually lacking in details, just saying ‘ssd’–not what type or brand. technically, op got what he ordered.
Yeah I get that technically he did get what he ordered and you can’t argue with it. Still, it’s dodgy.
HP shipped it with an NVMe with the HDD caddy empty and I expected it. Maybe I’m a sucker. Idk I didn’t like it.
Looks like you got what you paid for. When you buy second hand, you always need to be very careful about the exact specs you’re getting and get that in writing. Then again, that doesn’t seem like a huge deal to me.
Oh now I’m worried about my order. Got an optiplex 7060 MFF on the way and ordered a sata 2.5inch SSD for expansion. Please be an NVMe!
you got me
it really depends on where and from whom you get it. i’ve seen laptops sold as ‘brand new’ that have been cracked-open by sellers and ‘upgraded’ to sata ssd from nvme (worked on one a few months ago a guy just bought as new off amazon, with no indication in the listing that it isn’t as-built by hp originally); and i’ve seen more than a few ‘refurbished’ units (desktops and laptops) with cheap sata ssd used where nvme was available.
