The sponsor ads work when they’re neatly aligned aligned with the video’s concept. It wouldn’t budge me to see a manufacturer sponsor a PC build video where one of their products are being used. Or channels like GradeA where they advertise the sponsors in a similar way to their vids.
What breaks it is when you can feel the ad clearly feels like a last minute insert (which it feels like almost all the time). Even the bigger creators out there do this.
So anyway, has any of you motherfuckers heard about Raids Shadow Legends?
Ad is an ad. Fuck them.
Ryan George honestly does good stuff with his advertisements
They are so genuinely funny and I watch them both because of that and because I’m happy he’s able to make a living from his material!
I’m surprised I haven’t seen the “Adstronaut in Ad Space” joke anywhere else.
Personally, nope. I’m still annoyed. But yes, thanks for trying to make the ads amusing or whatever, YTers.
Imagine being soy for adverts.
The sponsor segments in GrayStillPlays’ videos are the only ones I remember, mostly because he ran the sponsor merch over with a lawnmower.
Acerola has cat videos on the side while he talks about his sponsor. I have sat thru it to watch the kitty.
me using SponsorBlock: what ad?
Ditto
I have no idea what I’ve missed… Till I go to someone’s house and watch raw YouTube and it’s unbearable.
REAL
TIL about SponsorBlock and DeArrow, just wow!
This line from the website made my day: There are currently 452.934 users who have submitted 17.125.673 skip segments, which have saved a total of 4185 years and 4.84 days of people’s lives.
I forgot that periods are used in some places instead of commas for thousands and was wondering how you could get 0.934 of a person
For some reason though its written as 4.84 instead which I thought should be written as 4,84?
Go Canadian, use spaces 452 934
Are spaces used in place of commas in regular casual conversations, too? In Australia, I’ve only ever seen them used in really formal documents like financial reports, never really anywhere else
Using commas looks weird here. You never really see anything other than spaces unless it’s foreign
I was taught to use spaces for thousands in Canberra
Sound about right.
What is dearrow ?
DeArrow is an open source browser extension for crowdsourcing better titles and thumbnails on YouTube. The goal is to make titles accurate and reduce sensationalism. No more arrows, ridiculous faces, and no more clickbait.
Oh cool it’s made by the same person that made sponserblock
And what do I do with all of that time? Watch more YouTube videos, of course.
Even though he reuses a particular gag format in his ad segments, I do like TheWhyFiles ads
‘TomSka and Friends’ has good enjoyable ads. They generally only have the one sponsor (Surfshark VPN) but they’ve done a lot for pushing for more enjoyable ads. Their off the rails skits are ones I don’t skip
I loved his video complaining about his search for surfshark’s limit on ads, going insane in the process, not finding it, and then just doing a deadpan delivery of surfshark at the end.
For Internet Historian it’s a highlight.
The only creator I’ll disable SponsorBlock for
Yeah too bad his videos are plagiarisms of other people’s work
Yeah I was really bummed to find this out along with all the nazi signposting that slipped past me because I couldn’t hear the dog whistle, he might be the only creator I’ve ever actually gone and unsubscribed to. Shame, too, because some of those videos were actually really good, credit where it’s due (even if that credit isn’t due to IH himself).
Nazi signposting? Any examples specifically? Gave up on IH after the plagiarism deal, and I know some of his earlier content tends to lean on the edgier side of things.
Best source is a reddit link, sorry.
I thought going in that people had to be overreacting about it, I know he’s a bit edgy and pretty clearly grew up on 4chan but it couldn’t be that bad.
Nah, it’s pretty bad.

Thanks for the info. Pretty awful.
the hitler references i can look past as bad low-effort edgy teen jokes, but him following a bunch of actual alive nazis on twitter is the most damning to me. good riddance, glad that i unsubscribed back when he was exposed for plagiarism. what a talentless hack
Me whenever I watch SomeMoreNews and Cody has something for Ground News or he chokes down his favorite drink.
I’m happy ground.news is spreading… I got it on app release and haven’t regretted my sub years later.
Yep I’m a few months deep and still loving the features.
Big Money Salvia on Internet Comment Etiquette makes full on short films for his ad reads. They are pretty great.
Nobbleberry is my favorite show.
He should be paid double for the amount of work he puts into those ads
I was going to post Erik, if no one else did. His ads are so good.
MiniMinuteMan did a bit where he just juggled while talking about the sponsor and you know what, it fucking worked on me. Jangle those keys for me.
Ice Cream Sandwich, Martincitopants and NakeyJakey have me going back after sponsorblock skips it, it’s just so entertaining i’ll take the ad at this point
you can whitelist channels in sponsorblock
I do this for tomatoanus skits as well, those are usually pretty off the wall. My man has an entire storyline saga going on in his ad read sections.
Danny Gonzalez definitely makes them pretty good too. But I feel like the original ones to make ads entertaining were MBMBAM in the early years. Griffin’s songs, their stupid ass bits? The money zone had me cracking the fuck up. That takes something special for me.
Seriously, I still think about the stack soap song.
Modern money zone isn’t nearly as good, but I still don’t skip it.
I’ve been going back through early MBMBAM lately. Goddamn, it was pretty much peak podcasting. I stand by that. Early-mid harmontown, early-mid MBMBAM, maybe the first two seasons of My Dad Wrote a Porno, and maybe the first few seasons of Slow Burn. The best podcasts have to offer, I think.
Also Hello Internet (RIP).
Did you guys know if you VPN through Albania, you don’t see YouTube adverts?
I sure as hell didn’t until a few weeks ago.
Anyway, do whatever you want to with this information :)
Any idea of why is that?
YouTube does not have any customers in Albania
I’ve read they aren’t legally allowed to show ads in some countries.
I like Steve Mould’s ad reads. He does science content and seems to only advertise products and services he uses, so his ads are mostly straight “this is what I like about the product, what makes it different to alternatives, this is why I use it, this is the stuff they told me to say”
He’s one of the few YouTubers I actually believe when he says a product is good
