    I have gotten to the point where I have to put things like “in my opinion” or “sometimes/mostly” way too often for the most mundane shit

    Don’t feel bad for blocking the worst offenders. Lemmy is small enough for that option to work quite well. Which is the best you can do. Being ignored drives them crazy.

        Yep agreed. Everyone’s views are different, and there is definitively going to be some opposition.

          I don’t mean to be memey, but personally I find the “hive mind” here to be way more homogeneous than on reddit. Unless you count different engineering fields as different viewpoints. There are way fewer creatives and trades here. And the engineery types like to pile on to any point of view that doesn’t match their world view.

            You definitely do have to work harder to find more diverse viewpoints here. It’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem. At least on mastodon you can specifically follow people who talk about things outside your realm of experience.

      Any time you point out the DNC is only slightly less evil than the GOP and that voting or otherwise working inside the system isn’t the solution to save America and instead just delays the inevitable

      Anytime AES states are mentioned in a way that doesn’t align with US foreign policy. (It’s a wonderful study of hegemony in action)

    What about the exception-makers. They agree…sorta, but always have to carve out a little spot for them to be more right, or you wrong, in an often irrelevant way.

      Well, actually, exceptions can be important to lend blanket statements some nuance. Wait, I’m doing it right now, aren’t I?

          Maybe. I’d expect the sediment and rocks to be settling down instead of of up. I’m in the 80% sure range that this is right-side up.

            Ah yes good point, I missed that puff of sand, certainly would seem to support it being right side up. I might be thinking of another, similar image which was flipped.

    I once said that children who steal can be rehabilitated or taught to be productive members of society.

    Downvoted to oblivion while everyone else celebrated the death of 3 kids because “all thieves deserve to die”.

      I’m sorry that happened. People should be able to have a real discussion about issues without attacking common sense.

      So in that case you would be the contrarian that this post is talking about. It’s almost as though critical thinking is good. Reactionaries may be the most vocal and abundant people on some posts, but that doesn’t mean they are right or willing to take a good look and discuss the topic at hand

      With statements like this there’s almost always some context left out, but even in the best case this feels like cheering on the death penalty

    you can sense the change in air pressure as several walls of NUH-UH are rapidly approaching your position to explain in excruciating detail why and how the point you made wasn’t nearly as reasonable as you believed it had been. or just yell at you a lot >_>;

        Look up “thebootydiaries tumblr sweaty” and give the images that come up a brief scroll. I’m not very creative so I’m just gonna tell you that we can do this all day.

        (edit: I’ve realized you probably already know about this and I’m the one missing the joke but i saw a brief opportunity to contribute and took it so I’m not taking it down.)
