Yeah it’s a real shame because from what I saw of the Artemis app it looked good as well. I hope the dev is ok.
Kbin definitely needs a decent app. The web app does the job but it can be a bit irritating as you say

It looks like a shady dealer in an orange hoodie.
Someone I’m in a Discord group with wanted an invite to bluesky because it was more familiar to him than Mastodon.
He pretty much wanted a like-for-like replacement for Twitter, though to his credit he had already tried Mastodon before dismissing it out of hand.
It’s not that he disliked it exactly, but he wasn’t that interested by what he saw so didn’t stick with it - to each their own
Breakfast has always been my least important meal of the day… I’d rather have an extra 10 minutes in bed.
I use Surfshark but I expect most of the quality ones offer something similar. Nord and Express often get mentioned as the best VPNs but Surfshark as the best cheap VPN - I’m impressed with it, would recommend. You can even use Chrome on Android and most sites seem like normal, though I’ve switched to Firefox anyway
(If you are thinking of using a VPN just don’t use a free one because they’re probably dodgy)
I use a VPN which has an excellent ad & bs blocker. But occasionally some sites need me to turn it off to pay for things or whatever and I forget to turn it back on and end up browsing the internet in its normal state.
And wow… welcome to commerce central. It’s not that all the ads are obnoxious though some are, but the quantity of them is out of control on some websites.
To be fair, I’ve found it’s a good rule of thumb that the quality of a website is usually proportionate to the less amount of ads they have.
I also reviewed mobile games for a while and had to play without a VPN to get the same experience most players would get - game ads are the worst. Unrepresentative of the games they’re trying to sell, but also often sexist (veering towards misogynistic), obnoxious and with false endings.
I never really believed in ‘the one’, but I met my wife when I was 27 and without being cheesy there was definitely something different between us from the get go compared to previous relationships (serious and otherwise) I’d had.
The definition of ‘monogomy’ is just ‘being in a relationship with one person’ though. What you’re talking about is an idealised version of Romance which I personally don’t buy into. It puts too much pressure on the idea of everything being perfect which nothing ever is.
I think the best thing is just to chill. Meet people you like. Meet people you don’t like. There’ll be fallow periods where you don’t seem to be getting dates or anything for months or longer (my record - 3 long years…)
But whatever you do don’t start looking up at statistics and things, because that does start to look incel. Do not become incel, or any of the other manosphere stuff. That’s the best advice.
Just came back from holiday today and this is my last day of being 39… When I wake up I’ll be a distinguished old gentleman with a long white beard.
Or not…
There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.
I call bs on this. This is just regurgitation of ‘common knowledge’. The creators of the code had tanky beliefs and that has no bearing on the vast majority of the content.
What I find is there’s a lot of privacy hardliners to the point where I’m scared to admit that I like using Chrome as my browser in case I get lynched. But I’ve joined/lurked on a lot of communities (and how is that a communist word?!?) and not so far seen anything turn into a debate about socialism/communism.
But bye bye.
This was my take.
I’m watching from a distance but I’m not getting involved because Reddit want as much traffic right now as they can. They didn’t do this just for fun. They’re milking the bad publicity to get more publicity. Don’t fall for it
Seems like if you were that desperate for Reddit information it would be easier just to bite the bullet and go to Reddit. Seems like a while lot of effort for no reason
what works for you works and the beauty of the fediverse is the choice to be able to choose the source and still see everything.
This is the main point for me really, everything else is just quibbling. Although collapsible comments on Kbin definitely need to happen!
Which features are missing from Kbin that are on Lemmy?
I lurked on both for about a week before going with Kbin so don’t really have experience of using Lemmy apps etc
I’ve got no problem with web apps and I’m happy with how Kbin works as one… BUT I am looking forward to Artemis just to see what they do with it 🙂
A built-in search tool to find communities all over fedi (kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon groups, etc.) with an indication of how active they are
I didn’t realise this was something only Kbin did. It is extremely handy.
I like Kbin a lot - there’s no OS app but the PWA does me alright. It was the UI that win me over but I couldn’t do without having a good search tool now I’ve got used to it I have to say
This will be related to the recent news that there are plans to pay contributors for posts. Will update with a link when I find it…
God’s sake. I mean… At least he’s apologising? I could imagine some of our recent lot doubling down on this and refusing to give in to wokeness blah blah blah…
But yeah. I’m really trying hard to be charitable cos it’s Christmas and everything. That’s not really pleasant stuff to hear from the guy who is in charge of the Police (over 1,100 under investigation for sexual assault or domestic violence atm)
