!ShittyMovieDetails@ when?
Someone suggested that we should use this to find instances nearer to us. I did that and it has been running a lot smoother on my end apart from the occasional loading issues on subs in Lemmy.world.
There’s definitely some getting used to for new immigrants like us from Reddit. The nature of Fediverse forces us to give up on the concept of “karma” and be ready to hop from one instance to another at any given time. The good thing is we’ll be seeing much fewer karma-farming bots, which I assume would be an even much bigger issue on Reddit now that so many of the genuine users have left. Shitty mods, rampant bots, subs going dark/NSFW. What a shitshow.
Making comedy at the demise of others and this whole “equal rights, equal left” bullshit have been gaining traction on Reddit over the years. So many of the top subs are filled with rage content to satisfy the hate-boner of the incels. Lemmy is really a breath of fresh air. Let’s hope it stays like this long enough to restore some of my faith in humanity.
I came to the same conclusion too. Nuking my shitposting account before leaving was enough to made me feel guilty so I decided to keep the other account that I used for actual problem solving and proper discussions intact for the same reason you mentioned.
I just came from another discussion on whether it’s a good or bad thing that others can still see the username on some Lemmy instances even after comments get deleted. What do you guys think? I’d really hate to be the person in that image who would likely be flooded by DMs asking for solutions.
One of the things I like about Reddit is that you could remove whatever you’ve posted as and when you want, at least on the surface level. I’d definitely want my username to not be visible once I’ve deleted my comments. Call me paranoid but I have a habit of deleting comments that reveal too much personal info (e.g. “I’m an abc working in xyz…” or “my abc is suffering from xyz…”) every once in a while but if a particular comment has already been quoted and replied by many then deleting it but still keeping my username would mean that people can still more or less guess the original content and trace it back to me.
Oh so it’s got to do with instance and not the apps? I didn’t think that was the case since I could see those names in some apps and not the others. Must have been in different instances then.
So even if we’re from different instances our handles will still show up if we post and delete comments in other instances that keep the handles visible?
Edit: just did a test under this comment and I still see my handle.
I wonder if seeing the handles of the users who deleted their comments on some Lemmy apps is a feature or a bug.
Seems like a desperate attempt to boost ad revenue that has been steadily shrinking due to adblockers and the rise of LLMs.
