Thank you. The extra article about the 116 and 105 year olds crediting bacon made me laugh. No men and lots of bacon, got it.

Been struggling with insomnia from anxiety. Unemployed and have an interview today, woke up at 3am. Frustrating because I’ve been taking measures to reduce anxiety in general and specifically before bed, but oh well. Just gotta keep building up the habits that help.
Hey if I’m going to be gaslit I might as well make it work in my favor sometimes too.
No need to apologize at all! I’m a novice spider lover so I’m constantly learning. I think Neoscona can be called a barn spider but it’s not THE barn spider. Confusing but nice to know.
Costco is incredible but unless you have a family how do you eat 24 eggs before they go bad?
It looks like both Neoscona crucifera and Araneus cavaticus are called barn spiders, though the latter is the namesake. Thanks for the specifics, I learned something new and will update my comment :D
Thanks, I updated it. Maybe it loads now?
Hard to tell without a good look at the abdomen, but I think this is a barn spider. The bite isn’t bad for humans. They are very creepy cute when resting, they fold their legs up and become a kind of diamond shape.
Edit: It looks like both Neoscona crucifera and Araneus cavaticus are commonly called barn spiders. I linked to the first but the second is the namesake.
Wish I knew so I could find a job there.
Real answer: it’s cheaper to wait and hire senior levels (or outsource because you can’t find qualified candidates) than to hire someone who needs training then may leave after you’ve trained them.
A lot of companies aren’t prepared for junior or even mid level devs. I’m job hunting and the amount of senior and staff level positions out there compared to jr/mid is sobering. If you think it’s salvageable, make a learning plan and share it with your boss. But it might be best to start leetcoding now. Best of luck, friend.
Don’t have any weird recommendations, but if you can manage a day trip to Nara from Osaka, it’s pretty great.
I was also wondering if the amount of shelled creatures they found in the digestive tract isn’t a little survivor bias. Not that I know anything about this, but it seems like shells would take longer to digest and would remain in the digestive tract long after softer foods. Also that shells would take better to fossilization.
Fast food’s too expensive even without delivery expenses these days. Makes me sad.
Well said. Social media is designed specifically to hold attention and encourage addictive behavior. There’s no way to compete.
Absolutely true. Aspartame is generally regarded as safe under 40mg/kg and still researching long term effects doesn’t mean it’s dangerous, just that there may be more to discover. To be fair, science is constantly evolving and new discoveries are being made every day for… well, everything. Still, if you want to find the “healthiest” way to get your daily caffeine, there are options out there with minimal additives. Black coffee, tea, seltzers, even pills.
Anxiety’s making a mess of me but I know the good habits I need to start doing again to help this pass. Still it’s really annoying.
Black coffee and tea are considered the healthiest options because no sugar, no sugar substitutes, no preservatives or other additives, and they’ve been used long enough that the health implications are well researched.
Diet sodas have ingredients that are considered safe in moderation by the FDA, but we are still learning about the long term effects of artificial sugars and different additives. There are caffeinated seltzers out there with just natural flavoring and caffeine. That would probably be a better comparison to black coffee and tea.
Yes and diet soda isn’t a perfect alternative. We’re still learning about the long term effects of artificial sweeteners. It’s a headache trying to navigate the options.
There are seltzer waters that have caffeine. I would guess those are comparable to black coffee in terms of healthiness.
Cause 30C is warm but 39C is heat stroke. Bigger range than 80-89F (warm to really warm), 90-99F (hot to really hot), 100F+ (heat stroke hot).
I didn’t like coleslaw until I ate it as a condiment. Alone it’s not my thing at all. In a sandwich? On top of pulled pork? Awesome stuff.
