Even if it’s a nice solution the licensing issue, they are still deceiving their users. I don’t think I have seen anything like them but they should be clear that they are bluetooth.

Curious. I always imagined it was a reference to the folklore create ‘Imp’.
Same goes for words in foreign languages. it just causes confusion. I like how eclipse went for “temurin” (anagram for runtime) for their OpenJDK distribution. no way to cause confusion.
this guy is 100% committed to give nazis a platform, right?
their veto to recognize them at the UN was also a pretty big clue.
Jason Snell made a good overview of what the suit focuses on. I think it makes the case easier to understand https://sixcolors.com/post/2024/03/u-s-versus-apple-a-first-reaction/
they were just fined with 1.8B because of their anti steering practices. so clearly they don’t always comply
actually, it doesn’t. It is now just “HP inc.” Sole years ago they split the company into HP inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. HP kept the PC and printing business and Hewlett Packard kept the enterprise business.
(but I get you. I just wanted to share that detail )
Im not sure you understands how this work. but anyway… they can do whatever with their service. I (or any person I know) dont plan to use it 🤷
Imagine if 99% of text messages sent were via iMessage, and the EU kept the same ruling.
If 99% of messages were sent via iMessage the ruling would have been different. if it ever fulfils the criteria needed to be considered gatekeepers, then they will be designed as such.
they wanted to be irrelevant in the European market for chat applications?
iMessages is like a footnote here. I was surprised it was even considered.
Im sorry but this is not correct. Most design decisions are a trade-off, you gain something but you loose something. You might argue that reparability should have a higher priority than size, but saying that you can be more repairable without gaining any size is nonsense.
maybe your vacuum works with valetudo? it’s a self-hosted cloud replacement for many vacuums https://valetudo.cloud
What’s stopping AI companies from paying royalties to artists they ripped off?
profit. AI is not even a profitable business now. They exist because of the huge amount of investment being poured into it. If they have to pay their fair share they would not exist as a business.
what OpenAI says is actually true. The issue IMHO is the idea that we should give them a pass to do it.
copyright has become a tool of oppression. Individual author’s copyright is constantly being violated with little resources for them to fight while big tech abuses others work and big media uses theirs to the point of it being censorship.
which also has DRM on it
The status of Apple as gatekeeper in the messaging app ecosystem is not yet clear. Remember that iMessages is not really popular in Europe, and Europe wont name Apple as a gatekeeper because of imessage’s popularity in the U.S. The EU does seem to be inclined to define them as gatekeeper, but that is not yet final. and if Apple implements RCS that might get them out of the hook. see section 5.4 of this document https://ec.europa.eu/competition/digital_markets_act/cases/202344/DMA_100013_215.pdf
You need to understand, this is written by economists, the people who make a living by justifying human suffering.
