If you’re trying to troubleshoot this, he’s saying to try it with just the cable so that you can identify that it’s the doc causing the issue and not your computer/os/monitor/cables. Remove variables and continue.
You only need a thunderbolt 4 to displayport cable. No dock needed. Most docks are USB-C based (unless you buy a thunderbolt dock) don’t support higher resolutions and may or may not support proper refresh rates.
You can get both HDMI cables and DisplayPort cables that are USB C on the other end. These will plug directly into the USB C ports on the laptop without any docks or adapters involved.
No one’s being shitty here but you lol. If you don’t care too much, respond to the people trying to help you with “it’s just a shitpost lol” instead of “😡 mac bad, i tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas”

i tried 5 different docks, its not the dock…
all those variables work fine with any other laptopt, the macbook is the variable here.
They are telling you not to use ANY dock. Connect the cable to the monitor.
My Macbook drives a 144hz 4K display, so your issue is not your Mac unless you have an Intel based Mac.
Likely it is either the cable or user error.
This MacBook has 4 tpye c ports and that’s it. So you need some kind of adapter,no way around it. I tried and the results are the same.

higher resolutioons like 1080p???

It’s just an integrated adapter…
Have you tried a direct USB-C to DisplayPort adapter or cable (not a dock)?
Yes,same thing
Weird, that seems to unusual based on people’s responses here and my quick Google.
I think it’s still solvable, in addition to the docks, there must be a cable or adapter that is causing the issue.
but why does it work fine with any other laptop?
I can’t answer that, despite that, there is a resolution. What model / year Mac is it?
Have you tried a different OS on the laptop?
Have you looked for updated drivers and firmware for the dock?
For the brief time while I had Linux on the laptop it worked fine 4k 60p.
No I didn’t since they work fine with other laptops
But you have this laptop that you want it to work on, genius. Problem is fixable. You’re just being lazy.
im getting my old laptop back so i dont care too much.
you are being shitty for no reason at all. chill.

i think you can find a more productive way to use your time. i havent been shitty to anybody :) please feel free to move past this
Considering I’m getting paid while interacting with your shitpost, I actually can’t think of a better use for my time lol
You come here asking for help and dismiss people trying to help lol
Where did I ask for help?
