If you want a combination of following people and communities, that’s basically the premise of Kbin, if I understand right. Not sure they support hashtags, though.
Hashtags map to Magazines (magazines are kbin’s “communities”) but it’s a little wonky since it’s still in development. Kbin doesn’t seem to support hashtags with special characters in it: #gaming-on-linux may just take you to #gaming, #news+politics may just take you to #news.
It is awesome, But lemmy has still a long way to go in terms of federation, e.g. I can not follow a mastodon user/hashtag from lemmy
