Maybe people don’t know which instance to use and just made several… Raw stats doesn’t show the real number of people. I made like 4 on different instances when I joined.
That is a thing, although I believe the vast majority has only one account. Some two, much fewer more. It is only natural that those with more accounts are more visible in conversations - much less people will tell you they made only one account, because they aren’t that much aware of that possibility.
But mostly, I believe the multi account crew is dwarfed by the bot army. So overall, the multi accounts probably don’t change much about the numbers.
Made like 4 accounts for different instances, and then my app Im using just congregates them all onto a default view like looking at a reddit home page with different subreddits

That’s how this ‘federation’ thing works, you don’t need multiple accounts for that.
