Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Finland is "now going to have problems" because it joined NATO, on the same morning that he claimed not to be interested in fighting any NATO members.
That’s not really accurate, even if it’s not entirely inaccurate.
The Winter War, like many Russian (Soviet) victories, was initially an exercise in bloodletting and embarrassment. The Stalinist purges lead the Red Army to be comically ill prepared for a winter invasion against a prepared Finnish defense (aided by Germany), but the war still ended with the Soviets gaining additional territory.
