Thank you. I figured whoever posted it just decided to call it that, but nope… Unfortunately it’s also right there in the article. I don’t understand why they’d use it when so many other established terms are way more suitable, for example Carpet Bombing.

It’s eye catching and evocative for a mainstream audience so of course they used “scorched earth”.
