EDIT: Just look at Raymond Hill of uBlock Origin. He won’t take donations because he doesn’t even want to have any kind of possibility of being influenced by money (up to and including wanting the freedom to walk away from the project if and when he wishes). At the end of the day, what does he get out of his endless work on uBlock Origin? I’ve never said thank you to him directly, and I doubt most have, yet he toils at it endlessly, because it is an overall benefit and good thing for humanity and the internet. To him, that’s enough, and it should be for all of us.
Seems more economic than political to me, but also why such the strong reaction to an on-topic reply? As you even said yourself:
