It was Chaos War (SC) -> Hero Arena (WC3) -> Attack on the Light v0.1a (WC3) -> Defense of the Ancients v1.3 (WC3).

Source: I made Chaos War (SC1 Map).

A multi-billion dollar industry hinges on the fact that an eight year old figured out how to make a map trigger which spawned units with an attack-move command in a custom editor in an RTS.

P.S: (I’ve seen exactly $0 of DOTA “money”. It was free and clear, for any and all, a source of happiness with no entry fee except Use Map Settings.)

Yes, it’s consistent with what the genre was called before it was shortened to MOBA. “Aeon of Strife Styled Fortress Assault Game Going On Two Sides”. A.k.a. ASSremovedS

I would say that was a strong influence but there were a lot of custom games with some of the elements of DOTA before it. I think DOTA defined the entire genre and how all the elements work first. Brood War just didn’t even have the options to make a real MOBA.

That’s a game I hadn’t thought of in a long time. I wanted that to be good so badly. It just wasn’t though. Didn’t run well, wasn’t fun. Apparently someone has remade the game with the same name + the overprime. Wonder if they made it any better.

There’s another remake called Predecessor. It’s ok but it still has a way to go. It’s more similar to later Paragon (especially the map) but without the shitty card system. It’ll be free to play eventually with the option to grind to unlock characters or pay for immediate unlocks.

      The Boys spoilers

The top frame features Homelander. The bottom has Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy is Homelander’s biological father. They used his sperm. I don’t remember if they altered it but it was definitely originally sperm from Soldier Boy.

Basically Homelander views himself as an upgrade of Soldier Boy but Soldier Boy views Homelander as a cheap knockoff of Soldier Boy.

If they changed DotA 2 to DotA then the meme would make more sense. DotA 2 and LoL are both successors to the original DotA map from WC3. If Homelander and Soldier Boy were brothers then it would make sense.

Isn’t League of Legends just a WarCraft 3 without gathering resources, building buildings and training army? Basically just hero units fighting akwardly.

For some history, the original DOTA was a custom map in Warcraft 3. It pretty much defined the moba genre. From there lots of clones were created, and eventually some were made into full games. League of Legends is one of those, and became the most popular. So yes, they’re all just Warcraft 3 with only the hero parts.
