In August 2023, 32-year-old Francois Ndjaseli, a graduate student from Gabon who was studying at Yekaterinburg’s Ural Federal University, was fatally stabbed outside of a Burger King in the city. Danil Fomin, a local 23-year-old, was charged with the murder and arrested shortly after. According to eyewitnesses, in the minutes leading up to the murder, two police officers watched from a vehicle as Fomin and Ndjaseli got into a fight, not deciding to intervene until it was too late. Now, the local news outlet E1.ru has published a video of the officers’ conversation as they observed the conflict from afar. During the five-minute conversation, Gennady Izergin and Ivan Oleinikov made jokes about the fight, teased bystanders who asked them to step in, and made racist comments. In English, Meduza is publishing an abridged transcript of the recording.

By the time the police arrived at the scene of the crime, Francois Ndjaseli had been stabbed. After conducting an internal investigation, the Russian Interior Ministry fired both Gennady Izergin and Ivan Oleinikov. The officers have also been charged with abuse of authority and are facing up to 10 years in prison.
Surprisingly solid response for Russia, really didn’t expect that.
Two more bodies for the meat grinder.
If there’s one thing Russia is good at, it’s punishment.
Not really, corruption is rampant and people get away with a lot.
Yeah but if you aren’t influential enough to get away with it, they’ll fuck you with a barb wired bat. Sideways.
No, only if you cross someone higher up, otherwise they are perfectly fine with it. Corruption is the norm, so that just means everyone higher up will have leverage over you if you fuck up. They won’t care about the corruption until then.
Probably that way only because Russia wants to at least maintain its African relationships when much of the world no longer wants to deal with Russia.
Russia general is really weird. Like Putin has his political opponents arrested he could have them killed but he doesn’t he has them arrested and then goes through with a sham trial. It’s like he has limits on his power not a lot but some.

I had exactly this happen to a friend of mine in NYC in the 90s, minus the stabbing part. He was walking in midtown and got jumped by a handful of guys who gaybashed him. Two cops were across the street and just kept drinking their coffees while watching.
Same thing happened to this dude:
Except he was stabbed by a serial stabber that the cops were looking for and when they saw him, they hid until the guy was taken out.

This is actually what I expect the law enforcement NPCs in games like Thief and Cyberpunk to sound like.
