A lot of people say fedditors but that sounds way too derivative of reddit
Lemmings
And at some point, someone looking for a payday1 is going to take video of us being herded off a cliff by an asshole2 even though we don’t actually do that unless provoked, and it will become a totally wrong impression of us that enters the common knowledge base.

Ironic, since lemmings don’t actually jump off cliffs. The people making the documentary (Disney) that’s famous from actually threw them over the cliff to make it interesting.
I saw that someone has also suggested calling communities c/liffs, to go along with the Lemming theme. I thought it fit.
This and it isn’t even an option
This so far seems to be the generally accepted term that’s been making it’s way around the platform here recently.
It’s the only reasonable answer given the name really
Lemmyngs
Lemmings, clearly
I don’t understand why this isn’t the most up voted selection.

Lemmings is the obvious choice
Yes, I’m willing to follow all of you off a cliff.
Did you know, the famous shot of lemmings falling of a cliff in the documentary that started the ideas that lemmings will just die following their peers off a cliff was actually a bunch of documentary makers pushing a bunch of lemming off of it to make a cool shot and not actual lemmings behavior ? You probably did actually…
Is this legit? Do you have a source I could read? If this is real that’s so effed
You can find it on the wikipedia page of the film, but if you search for it on the internet you find a ton of sources https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Wilderness_(film)
heard about it on jre, didn’t even attempt to verify, so no sauce but a trust me bro, this version of the story has little enough consequences and aligns with my beliefs enough that I don’t mind believing it even if it isn’t true
No offense but that doesn’t seem like a good mentality to have…
Wikipedia says the scene was staged
the lemming Wikipedia page was interesting in general regarding myths surrounding them.
In short, those of us that found lemmy from reddit are definitely lemmings.
I heard of lemmy before all this and just didn’t get it - i knew nothing about the fediverse and that the instances can interact - I would have started exploring sooner.

I know “lemmings” is catching on but what if we go for “federalists” because it sounds cool?
I get what you are going for, and it sounds kinda cool but nahh. Federalist sounds too political lol. Lemmings sounds soft and cool imho
Federalist society is a right wing thing, would be funny if it could be taken though
But it would make the Lemmy Civil War so much cooler! Think about it.
“After BeeHaw defederated, several federalists from the Lemmy World Federation, Lemmy ML Federation, and more, have conducted raids on the BeeHawvists.”

Sounds like an Episode I side plot.

The Fed
I agree with federalist for the overall movement, but not Lemmy in particular. Federalist is a word that means that exact thing, so it works, but it’s typically for nations/states.
Federators. Mount up!
