Who can blame them. Amongst many other negative factors towards being pregnant, giving birth, and raising a child, China also has the Elderly Rights Law where you legally have to care for AND visit your elderly parents. Defying this law can result in fines or jail time.
Additionally, China has been flip-flopsy in this matter and not that long ago, too. The article mentioned a lady who was fined for having too many kids under their 1-child policy and who is now undrrstandably pissed at seeing govt requests to have more kids. I’d feel a certain way too.
Providing universal childcare and pensions, or creating a welfare state in general might help with these issues and some others. Unfortunately Xi doesn’t have a positive view of welfare AFAIK.
And having a working culture that allows people to earn a reasonable living whilst having time and money left over for a family.
If my government gave me around 1500 euros per month per child until they have stable job, so probably around 25 years old, adjusted for inflation of course. Then I would consider having a child.
A child costs far less than 1500€/mo until they go for higher education. And at that point, if their uni is close enough from house, costs wont dramatically increase. In what world does a single child cost you 1.500€ a month?

I paid less 800€ a month for a nanny up to my children entering school, 100€ a month of food for three of them and 20€ for clothes. There’s no health insurance as it’s provided by our country and extra is paid by employer, no dental costs and who the fuck cares about piano? The most expensive thing I had to pay for them was to have a single room at the hospital when I gave birth and that was 1.200€ for the whole stay including medical acts. And even if my kids decided to play piano, the conservatory is owned by the city and costs a mere 100€ a quarter? The most expensive activity my children do is ride horses and that’s 75€ a month down the street.

Also you should only have kids if you really want them and not because some communist fuck told you…kids are wonderful but will change your life drastically, so it should be a well thought decision made by only yourself and probably your partner.
