Is there a way to trick the App Store into displaying the wrong age for your app? Because if not, then this app is 4 years old and Meta is actually stealing their name.

The 4+ age is like for videogames ESRB and PEGI, it’s not the age of how long the app has been in the App Store

I love it. See how important it is to keep a closed store, for security!

But honestly no malicious app is probability worse than the genuine article anyway.

It surprises me how poor people’s technology literacy is, when they see an app with a completely skewed logo and think, “It’s probably the real deal.”

There really needs to be some form of education in this area…

They’ve decided yet another service from Zuck is a good idea. We’re not dealing with geniuses here

I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case.

Nevertheless, it would be great if people had better tools to assess whether the “trades” they make with tech giants are as innocent as they think. This requires, for example, a better understanding of the data they are giving away. I think the list of permissions shown on the app store for the legitimate app can be quite abstract for many people. Makes it too too easy to overlook the potential consequences and quickly click download - or accept, like many do with cookies.

That’s literally not the official one. At least it collects less data. Anyone has experience with what it does? Just connects to fediverse?

Meanwhile, a lot of other apps have “not affiliated with Instagram” as a disclaimer as their first line of the description. I was wondering if Apple requires it or even automated it somehow. Screenshot

Time for somebody to make an EU-exclusive Mastodon instance called realthreads.legit and put it up on app stores. The real way to grow the fediverse in a hurry is to trick people into it. /s
