I know I will, but it also leaves an edited mark on the comments so I’m curious about your thoughts

Usually only if it changes the comment in a way that makes it less understandable. If it’s a simple grammar mistake, but doesn’t change the message, I just leave it.

Yes. I look stupid enough as it is, I don’t want to seem illiterate as well.

Oh, absolutly! I wood never leaf a mistake unattend. It’s like leaving your zipper down – you’ve gotta zip it up before too many peephol notice! So, I’d scurry over to the edit botton faster than a squirel with a nuts.

If I see it I don’t know if they edited their comment to be the complete opposite of their original comment or just a grammar edit. I normally just assume its grammar edit.

Yes! I stopped caring about the edited mark. Why should everything be perfect at the first post? I edit for grammar all the time, fix my phrasing, edit for better flow, add things I forgot to mention, etc.

I’d rather edit to fix my own mistakes than stand firm on making a mistake and thinking it was important to keep the mistake or something.

The typos/mistakes absolutely detract from any points you’re trying to make.

One thing I wish Lemmy had is ninja edits, where editing a comment within maybe 30 seconds will not show the edited mark.

Yeah I’m on Tildes and it does this! You get a 5 minute or so grace period. Nice quality of life feature.

Yes, often with a reason, but almost never if it changes the context of my original post. If that happens, I’ll simply append my original post.

But I mostly edit to correct mistyped words (autocorrect) or grammar.

One time, a particularly miserable individual on here told me that I shouldn’t make typos, if I’m going to post a controversial comment.

Nevermind that my comment was supposed to be friendly banter, but obviously, they didn’t actually care about that. They just needed to put someone down, so they could feel better about themselves.

But yeah, that really made me want to leave spelling mistakes in every comment I post. Unfortunately, I’m actually extremely anal about spelling, myself…

Depends on the site, but most social media platforms have an mark if the comment/post was edited after posting

Maybe not all clients show it. Jerboa shows you

      1h (30m)

meaning it was posted an hour ago, edited 30 minutes ago.

The web version also shows it, yeah.

Almost always, yes. Hell, I go back and edit stuff just to make it clearer or flow better, even if there are no typos or grammar issues.
