Why did we challenge it in the first place?
Fuck I hate the tories.
Don’t worry if you’re a tory though, keir starmer has your back!
Who’s that?
The current prime minister of the UK and the head of the labour party.
Oh I knew it was a new guy but not the name. Anyways I think I’ll forget a couple times more.
That’s a truly terrible photo of him though. If I was only vaguely familiar with him, like a lot of the world will be, I don’t think I’d recognize him from that picture.
Well it says his name and the fact that he is head of the labour party in the text below aswell so…
Oh goddammit no.
Fuck’s sake.
The Tories’ challenge is not because they have any real opinion one way or the other, but because they don’t like the fact that someone is telling them what to do. They can’t stand that.
It’s now being dropped on the grounds that it is an utterly ridiculous political position to take. It damages our relationship with the rest of the world, fundamentally doesn’t really gain us anything, and all of this is basically just symbolic anyway since he isn’t going to leave Israel and so isn’t going to be arrested.
Thank you for your perspective.
I had presumed it had more to do with us selling them weapons than anything so petty.
But the whole thing is moot, as you say. Just more empty posturing so we can pretend to be doing something.
"The UK has dropped its opposition to an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, removing a key hurdle to one being issued and underlining the tougher stance being taken towards Israel by the new Labour government.
Downing Street confirmed on Friday that the government would not submit a challenge to the jurisdiction of the international criminal court, whose chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, is seeking a warrant against the Israeli prime minister. "
Good. Now arrest these war criminals.
The Tories are out, you’ll see UK being significantly less wanky over the next 4-8 years.
We’re back!
You could argue that actually our normal state of being is wanky and that the next 5-10 years are the anomaly.
I’m kind of hoping that the conservatives continue in their quest to basically become the republican party and will continue to lose votes from both sides. And given the way their party conferences are going and the way they’re attacking each other and claiming that the reason they lost the election is because they weren’t fascist enough, It’s looking like a guarantee.
I think that’s exactly what the conservatives will do. Unfortunately I’m not optimistic enough to believe that this will prevent their being reelected. Didn’t stop trump, after all.
The Tories did lose because they weren’t Fascist enough. Labour got less votes this year than they did in 2019. The Tories lost because enough of their voters defected to Reform
They also lost a lot of votes to the Lib Dems don’t discount that. If they don’t sit in the middle of politics then a lot of on the fence voters won’t go for them.
5 to 10. What’s this 4-year term you’re on about?
First class oppressors are unassaible in this world order. Most of people still believe in this world order then… that is okay I guess. -_-
I’m starting to think Netanyahu will spend his last years in the lap of luxury in the U.S. like Idi Amin did in Saudi Arabia.
Agreed.
He could join Bolsonaro down in Florida and live in a rightwing autocrat hype house
This sounds an interesting season of MTV The Real World.
The Real World (Leaders Edition)
…when politicians stop being polite, and start getting really fake
Finally they are going to arrest him
arrest him? I have a better idea, how about we bring him to make a speech to the congress like he’s the actual fucking president or something, and give him a standing ovation! is that not what you do with genocidal war criminals?

“The government feels very strongly about the rule of law internationally and domestically, and the separation of powers, and I would note the courts have already received a number of submissions on either side and they are well seized of the arguments to make their determination.” She would not be drawn on whether the government had a view on whether a warrant should be issued for Netanyahu’s arrest, saying it was a matter for the courts.
This is a reasonable and honourable position, and I wish the German government was taking it as well. Instead, they painted themselves into a corner, giving carte blanche at the Israeli far right to do absolutely whatever.
Dont worry. On Wednesday Chancellor Scholz deemed it “disgusting” to suggest that products made in illegaly occupied territory, or ressources exploited there should not be traded with. This was an explicit aspect from the ICJs expertise, which stated that no UN country must legitimize the occupation and therefore must not engage in trade with goods stolen in the occupied territories.
Governments should in general have no say on such matters.
People elect officials for particular posts and decision-making powers for their own country. In clearly defined roles!
But somehow outside their country they may raise their stink on every random issue, without any constraints. And their stink somehow is considered.
This is the same as Artsakh “being recognized as part of Azerbaijan” by hybrids of pigs and jackals who don’t have any right to talk on behalf of Artsakh.
Nice! I know there’s still much further to go before justice is done, but this is a step in the right direction, and I can appreciate it for that.
