I got this same email. Of course the only domains I own are .com and .xyz. Going to lock in as many years as I can before September.

I want that router, but I don’t have a good reason to give my wife why our RB4011 needs to be upgraded…lol
Extremely simple! It’s literally just a few screws and unplug the old one and put in the new. Took all of 10 minutes and at least half of that was trying to find my small screwdriver bits. Lol
My use case sounds similar to yours, so I’d second the T480. I got one 7-8 months ago, and it’s been great so far. Only thing I changed was I put in a backlit keyboard.
I don’t know any general laptop communities. At leasr not ones with any activity, but !thinkpad@lemmy.ml seems relatively active.
If you ever need to find a community, https://lemmyverse.net/communities is a decent place to start.
I’ve got a Mikrotik RB4011, and I couldn’t be happier with it. It definitely has a learning curve, but once I got it setup how I want, it just works. I’m sure some other options have the same feature, but one of my favorite things is a script I have run every night that emails me a backup.
I’ve only ever had to use it a few times, but having a recent backup of my router on hand all the time is nice.
I have the Leaf 2 and like it a lot. Can be a little slow sometimes, but nothing worse than any other ereader I’ve used.
Those are the two I switch between too. I slightly prefer homepage, but you can’t go wrong with either one.
How is performance now? I moved away from it a year or so ago because the performance was pretty bad on my system, even with an external database.
I host a copy of Obsidian on my server, and I can access it through a reverse proxy. There isn’t any authentication though, so you have to use something like Authelia.
I wasn’t a fan last time I tried it out. I’m glad they changed the name though. Calckey sounded more like an excel alternative.
I’ll have to check it out again at some point though.
Thanks for this link! I’m on Vultr, which is good, but it’s around $7 a month with only 25GB of storage. Think I’ll pick up one of the Ethernet Servers deals.
I host it on a VPS since I was hesitant about having something like this hosted at home. As far as spinning it up, it was relatively straightforward using the docker instructions (https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/install_docker.html).
I ran into some issues with the postfix container not being able to send emails, but it turned out I just needed to ask my VPS provider to unblock port 25 for SMTP.
Nice! Just me on my instance too. The only downside I’ve found so far is that I have to discover new communities in my own since there is no one else to populate “All”.
Small price to pay to have control over my instance though.
Hey, thanks for doing that! I, unfortunately, didn’t think about people that would need to use screen readers or the like. Next time I’ll wait until I’m at a computer to type it out.
Pretty much anything I can. It’s too much to type out, but my Homepage lists most of it minus any databases or reverse proxies. I also host a one person Lemmy instance. Everything but Lemmy is run on a 2013 gaming PC with Unraid.
EDIT: After posting this, I’ll probably end up selfhosting an imgur alternative too…
This looks great for my one person instance! Any way to unsub and block any unwanted communities?
I ended up getting a cheap VPS to use for Lemmy and Matrix for exactly that reason. They didn’t want to play well with Cloudflare proxy, so the VPS was the easiest solution.
Thanks for this! Last time I looked, it didn’t support searXNG.
I’ve got a Vultr VPS with 1GB of ram with just Lemmy and a reverse proxy. RAM usage is right below 50% most of the time. I never looked when I first spun it up, so no idea how quickly usage is going up, or if it is going up at all.
I use an Amazfit GTR 2e, and it works almost perfectly with gadgetbridge. The only difficulty I have is i’m unable to manually update A-GPS data, so getting a GPS lock can take a while. But I don’t use it a lot, and honestly, the Fitbit Versa I came from wasn’t all that much better.
