  • wanted to implement something like that with my 1920R UPS for my rack but haven’t found the time to commit to antiquated hardware.

Was enough of a hassle dealing with the expired SSL certs on the management card yet getting software running on one of my machines to communicate with the UPS.

Honestly you should just bypass dells management software and use NUT. It supports your UPS’s management card if you enable SNMP or you can bypass it all together and just run off of the USB/serial.

All things considered my two servers chilling chew around 60w on average, not taking into account my POE cameras or other devices. The UPS should run for over a day without getting close to draining its batteries (have a half populated ebm too).

I’m pretty surprised I can run my whole network for an hour off of my 1500va UPS with three switches and a handful of POE devices. I’m still thinking about replacing it with a rack mount unit so i can lock it inside my rack as I’ve been having issues with unauthorized people messing with it.

  • TSA literally says on their own website that they are not looking for drugs and will only report it to the police if it’s blatant.

TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.

  • I’m pretty sure that spare tire is only there for the joke. With off roading tires that large they are almost definitely bead lock tires which can be ran at very low PSI without risk of the tire departing the rim. On top of that the tread is much thicker meaning punctures have to go deeper before they cause problems and most of the time came be fixed by simple plugs.

Not to mention the logistics of changing a spare on a tire of that size. A bottle jack is completely out of the question and you wouldn’t be able to use a farm jack safety with the body that high. Even if you could how are you going to get that wheel onto the studs when it weighs over 300Lb?

  • A VPN is only a single end point just like your ISP meaning you are only shifting the problem to your VPN provider who admittedly is more trustworthy than your ISP but you are still putting an immense amount of trust into a single point of failure.

If you truly want to hide from your ISP or really anyone, your only options are to use TOR or I2P where your traffic is encrypted and tumbled through multiple servers.

  • ZFS will do block level deduplication but requires a large table be stored in ram. The issue arises that the cost to increase your ram to keep up with that table size usually ends up being a lot more than just adding more storage.

I do believe most games have an inflated size due to uncompressed assets being included which a file system level compression could help with so long as you have the CPU to spare.

  • There’s some great testimonies from exit node operators out there. Basically it’s only a matter of time before some form of police knock on your door and ask questions but depending on your jurisdiction you won’t be liable for the traffic.

Your IP will be added to most spam block lists which (unjustly) adds the master list of exit nodes so do not use your home internet connection to host an exit node.

  • It is intentional but you have the wrong reason. Right now all of the class one railroads are trying a business strategy called precision schedule railroading in order to boost their stock prices. The meat and potatoes behind PSR is to lower the railroad’s operation ratio as lower as possible by reducing anything that isn’t absolutely critical to making the business run. That means cutting your staff to below a skeleton crew level while fighting the FRA to allow for one man crew trains, running extremely long trains even if it literally divides a community, and deferring maintenance unless uncle Sam wants to pitch in. In some extreme cases of PSR some railroads have even gone as far as closing down tracks in sections with multiple main lines.

  • I’ve spent the last two weeks on getting a k3s cluster working and I’ve had nothing but problems but it has been a great catalysts for learning new tools like ansible and load balancers. I finally got the cluster working last night. If anyone else is having wierd issues with the cluster timing out ETCD needs fast storage. Moving my VMs from my spinning rust to a cheap SSD fixed all my problems.
