  • I don’t get that, really. I get eyestrain from e-ink. It’s just so hard to read because of the way it looks. Reading on a tablet is just like anything else. Also, you should know that using a tablet isn’t like reading a piece of paper – it emits light, rather than absorbing it. Dark mode is your friend. I think that’s people’s problems trying to read on a tablet, they don’t use dark mode and end up staring into a bright light for hours on end.

Dark mode should be the natural, default state on all computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. You’re goinjg to ruin your eyes staring into a white screen.

  • My single tablet use case is ebooks. I despise the ugly “e-ink” readers and love the simplicity of a cheap tablet. It’s really the only way to read in any situation because reading from even a small laptop is inconvenient in the places I read in.

Of course, my smartphone use case isn’t that big – emergency calls/texts, typing out grocery lists, and portable storage. I have a simple talk/text plan, no mobile data. Never understood the need for one. In an absolute need, I can seek out somewhere with wifi and use that, but I don’t really even do that. Just never been a smartphone guy. Wish payphones and pagers were still around so I could ditch mobile phones completely.

Computers are still so far ahead of any mobile device in usability and convenience that it’s not worth using mobile devices casually.

  • Sponsored by the wealthy city property landowners of America that are angry as hell that people wised up back in the 70s and got the hell out of the crowded, crime-filled urban blight of the cities that is still there. They tried to “fix” it by roping off certain areas and gentrifying them, but the problem remains.

This whole thread has reddit fuckcars stink to it, which is promoted by the exact same wealthy landowners trying to get people back into the damn cities. No, thank you. Private vehicles is FREEDOM and the ability to actually get to the place you need to go without drama. It’s also ableist to advocate for public transportation because only cars will put you right at the place you need to get to, with the ability to park close with given parking stickers. Good luck walking (or biking) several blocks if you have mobility issues.

And it’s only the wealthy landowners who need constant expansion into undeveloped land; frustrated by people not falling for the “come to the cities” bait, they start buying up and using undeveloped rural land when it’s not necessary, as tons of housing, cheap apartments, and retail locations sit unused and decaying because they don’t own them or they’re perceived as “failed”.

That’s the scam that you should really know. Be aware, there is an enormous push to promote this “move back to the city, fuck cars!” trash pushed by wealthy people; I have fought this for years and they will not stop trying to silence the truth, regardless of how many times I argue against every single flawed point they have.

  • Was driving down a road in a subdivision near my house one firecracker-shooting day and a damn firecracker got shot directly at my car. I swerved on instinct to miss the damn thing; fortunately no one was near.

Firecrackers are dangerous and loud and irritating and really, really terrible and should be outlawed to be used by regular people. Have your little pretty shows in a known area on Firework Celebration Night Of Whatever, but keep them out of the hands of Joe Public.
