Started out on the fmhy.ml just prior to the .ml debacle. On lemmy.world now, but they have just started banning piracy communities. The new fmhy instance, of course, has already died before I got to try it.
sigh Married pasty male looking for lemmy instance that:
- Has some decent uptime / Reliable / Not on a fly by night top level domain
- Hates Nazi’s and doesn’t hesitate to ban, block and defederate such crap
- Tolerant of piracy communities and federations
- Oh, and will let me see comments in the Technology community. That isn’t working for me here.
Suggestions welcome.
I’m quite liking infosec.pub so far.
Also wandered off from lemmy.world recently, though that was due to the consistent server outages.
Lemmy.ml works for me. Your post of requirements resonates with me.
I don’t need “bitch” censored for me thank you very much.
It requires that you write an application and that that application gets accepted by admins for you to join though. So it is not really an option.
A solid choice is Feddit.ch, it is based in Switzerland.
Oh I see lemmy.dbzer0.com has already been suggested
sh.itjust.works is great, cause it actually does just work.
So far they meet all your criteria (except for defederating extremists, we hold democratic votings about it unless its something against the laws where we are hosted)
I’d love to make an account there, but the confirmation email is broken apparently. Can’t login.
Really? Odd, I can mention it in the matrix chat if you’re still interested @timou@jlai.lu
I’ve heard a lot of people report this, it’s definitely an issue.
Until it’s resolved you can dm @thedude@sh.itjust.works and he will manually confirm your acct.
@allyougottadois@lemmy.dbzer0.com
@timou@jlai.lu
I just went to inform admins and someone else had already just brought it up. I’ll keep you posted.
@thedude@sh.itjust.works
Same here, tried with 2 different mails. I guess that doesn’t always just work 😏
Responsive admins on matrix and run on renewable energy too.
Yeah, defederating **right wing ** extremists is important to me.
Exploding Heads is
federateddefederated by democratic vote.Isn’t that the site recently defederated from l.w. for having an illegal fetish style community? No thanks.
Defederated by democratic vote*
My autocorrect messed up.
Second that sh.it
this might help you.
I remember there was another where you put your opinions (agree, don’t care, disagree) about those bullet points and it throws you a list of instances but I didn’t save it sorry.
It would be very useful if you found that again and posted it.
Lemmy.blahaj.zone, startrek.website, sh.itjust.works are all good.
any reliable instance will do (lemm.ee, divbyzero, discuss.tchncs.de,…) filter undesired instances using connect or sync. done.
What .ml debacle?
Mali (where .ml comes from) claimed all of their domains back from a Dutch company that managed them for over a decade, and in the process, they shut down or took over quite a number of websites they didn’t agree with.
lemmy.blahaj.zone if you’re fine with the queer friendliness
What is “queer friendliness”? Do you mean pro LGBTQ+ rights?
Do you mean pro LGBTQ+ rights?
You betcha!
I would point out that piracy is against our ToS, so we wouldn’t tolerate hosting piracy subs ourselves.
well lemmy.blahaj.zone is federated with lemmy dberz0.com
We aren’t defeferated from them. That’s different from hosting that content ourselves though.
I’m not personally against piracy, however hosting that kind of content here ourselves would put our primary reason for creating this space (that of providing a safe social space for trans and LGBTQIA+ people) at risk.
I just wanted to point that out before we get a whole bunch of piracy subs created on our instance that we’d have to remove.
Is that instance stable? I tried it and it was such a slog sometimes.
meh It’s fine for me
Come to Blahaj.Zone, we have the rainbow and hate people that hate.
Isn’t that the instance that had the admin who threw a fit about the NSFW lemmy? And doubled-down when it was pointed out they were wrong? The whole point is he wants an instance where people aren’t gonna defederate for stupid reasons.
Yes, but I completely agree that people who seek out porn of people who look like children but are “legal” are gross. It’s no different than lolicon of little girls BuT sHeS 1000 yEaRs OlD.
It’s gross and I’m on board with removing barely legal porn that is made intentionally to appear younger.
Defederation should be a last effort, not something you should do just because some women have small tits.
Of course, the idiot admin isn’t the only person doubling down on being wrong.
Well, seeing as the entire community voted on defederating after the dust settled on what was happening, we agreed to remove trash from our front page.

Paradox of tolerance
lemm.ee is a nice instance. Admin is chill.
Just joined lemm.ee
What’s their take on tankies?
They have defederated from neither lemmygrad.ml nor hexbear.net.
Idk he didn’t say anything regarding his politics.
😅
not sure if you’re joking but I can see the url is wrong… .ee on the end, not .me
Oops, shouldn’t try to think before bed 😂 Thank you.

For some reason, lemmy.sdf.org has issue in federating with kbin.social communities. Taking one random community as an example:
-
Viewing from lemmy.sdf.org: 1 new post in last 24h.
-
Viewing from lemmy.zip: 6 new posts in last 24h.
-
We’re mostly just a bunch of Unix nerds over here.
I use SDF and I’m happy with it but his second point is that the instance should defederate/not tolerate Nazis, which SDF doesn’t fit the bill

Lemmy.SDF.Org Come on over
In French : SDF = Sans Domicile Fixe (Homeless)
Though it had some uptime issues literally the weekend that I recommended it to a friend, it’s been solid since.

Thank you, everyone. Found my new home. What was odd was that this thread I created (Hi, I’m also HR_Pufnstuf) experienced the same problem with all threads in the Technology community… where I can’t see any of the comments except my own. Luckily I was able to find all your comments in my inbox. After visiting all your wonderfull suggestions, save for the kbin’s, I’ve chosen to settle here. I’ll keep the lemmy.world around as a backup.
Also, wanna say the default theme here is pretty slick
Again, thanks everyone. I appreciated the feedback!
PseudoSpock / HR_Pufnstuff
Edit: I had a typo in my sig of PseudoSpock I just fixed. That typo had made it offensive and I am VERY sorry!
I had the same problem with not being able to see comments, even in my own thread. I found that the issue was with the language I selected in my settings. I was told to select ‘Undetermined’ but I think this only let me see other undetermined posts and not those who have theirs set to English. So I clicked the big ‘X’ next to them in settings (deselecting any language) and now I see everyone’s comments. Hope that helps.
Aha! I, too, had suspected that setting, I just didn’t figure out the fix. Good on you!
