Hi! Welcome.
Can someone smarter than me please explain how the posts cross over from Mastodon to Lemmy?
I’ve really been trying to figure it out, but I’m coming up blank every time.
My understanding is that on mastodon you can see the Lemmy communities sort of like you can see any other profile. Then every post on that is put out like a toot is. Guessing from the @ in the title of this post that if someone @'s the community on mastodon is shows up as a post on this? This could be completely wrong though
I keep seeing this explanation, and, thank you. But, I still don’t get it. I understand the basics, which is what I find everywhere.
What I’m not sure of is HOW to use it. It’s actually kinda driving me crazy because I’m actually putting forth some effort here, but still, no dice.
Here’s that guy’s mastodon page: https://mastodon.social/@urda
You can see his post there that ended up here.
Edit: I guess it would’ve made sense to link right to his post: https://mastodon.social/@urda/110664134957884750
Fuck me. We’re getting closer!
How did it end up here? He did @fediverse but comments from here aren’t there and comments from there aren’t here. So, now I’m confused again.
Can they see Lemmy comments as well? This is so interesting
IIRC the post format is:
Title
@community@server
Body textCould you elaborate? This might be the closest I’ve been yet to understanding.
If you make a post and tag @fediverse@lemmy.world it should post the first line as the title.
If you include a link, I think it will post it as a link too.Edit: found the issue, it looks like links aren’t supported but it uses the first part of a post as the title.
Is there a guide or tutorial or just someone with spare time who can explain how and why it works that way?
It works this way because Mastodon and Lemmy both implement ActivityPub.
When you mention a Lemmy community from a Mastodon post, this post is sent to the Lemmy server you mentioned and treated as a new post in the community by Lemmy.
Then, when people reply from their Lemmy client, these comments are also visible to on the OP’s Mastodon server.
may the fediverse thrives and well!
So many connections here!
Hi! Waving back from Lemmy.
@andellor FYI not every reply made it to my mastodon inbox. You can see what I saw at https://mastodon.social/@urda/with_replies
That is interesting, here’s hoping comments federate smoother in the near future.
@andellor When they do I get a notification inside Mastodon.
Not sure if the link will work but here is what it looks like on my end. I’m using a Lemmy app called Memmy.: https://imgbox.com/XME0FAFM
@andellor Yeah, and from here it looks like a normal Mastodon thread. This is my “testing” or learning account as I step into federation.
@andellor Hello!
