Imagine being a photographer and realizing that you captured the bullet in mid-air. I would have that framed and on the wall.

after you crop-out the felon
This post goes against the community guidelines, please remove it
Edit: you can disagree, but it still goes against rule 2 of this community and I’m so sick of having political photos everywhere. There are tons of political communities already, go post there please
Hahaha, I remember that discussion. The mod originally wanted to ban all pics with a political subject at all, but then figured that people might be assholes and report rainbows and shit. Settled on "any politician from any country " as a compromise.
Sorry, this picture has to go, no matter how interesting it is as capturing an impactful moment in time.
explain
Rule 2 of the community guidelines does state that all political pictures (defined as a picture of a politician of any country of any planet) are prohibited and will be removed. So they are not wrong, in spite of the down votes. I do wonder if the community were to have a similar poll today on whether these types of images should be banned how it would turn out, assuming the community has grown significantly since the months that have passed since the prior vote. The second choice was very close in the original poll which would have provided an exception of one political picture allowed per current event.
Edit: here’s the link to the community poll for context if it helps anyone else!
Womp womp, ig I’ll delete the post. Any suggestions for a different community to post it on? I don’t normally post to picture communities

And you just broke rule 5.
Yikes

It’s the photo of a politician, which is against the rules that make this community pleasant for everyone else. You can find the guidelines of this community in the sidebar
2…Pictures containing a politician from any country or planet are prohibited, this is a community voted on rule.
You could literally just look at the rules but I’ll do you the favor of copy pasting it directly to you
Nice. Still don’t care.
Huh? Then why’d you ask?
I didn’t ask you anything, you must be confusing me with someone else.
Ok. Rephrase: why did you demand?
We can be nice about helping people who ask honest questions too :)
Many people are unfamiliar with the concept of different communities having different rulesets. Even people who come from reddit land.

Wasn’t sure if my brain was just filling things in but I could’ve sworn I could kinda see it on the video. I assumed it was maybe because there was some ear matter and a little blood to help it.
The dipshit missed smh what coulda been
Edit goddamn I just got trolled. Gg
I was about to dismiss that out of hand, presuming you just didn’t know the film, but I think you’re right. His face is too wide, and the hairline doesn’t match the original footage.
I’m simultaneously impressed by a pretty slick edit, and bewildered that anyone would put in the effort
Edit: and now I look like an idiot, because OP swapped the gif for a original. I swear guys, it was uncanny
Bravo OP 👏
Are we sure it’s not just hot air escaping his head?
No, we aren’t. Nor are we sure if said release of hot air is from a puncture.
Wow, shocker… Ironic everyone bashing AI now, when digital cameras made the midest of mid photographers, “okay”.
If that’s real, that would be after he was struck, right? The bullet is to his left, and he was shot from his right
He’s already been hit here, but hasn’t reacted.
That might’ve been a shot before he was hit. The gunman fired off multiple rounds and Trump didn’t immediately react. Plus, the bullet that hit him caught his upper ear. That one looks too low.
Perspective can be weird, this photo was obviously taken from a low angle based on the podium. I’m not saying it is the bullet that caught his ear, but I wouldn’t rule it out.
It’s a UFO, what is everyone talking about?
Someone with more motivation than me could probably calculate whether the amount of bullet streak in the frame would make sense for the frame’s exposure time calculated against the speed of 5.56 at ~150 yds
Someone in another thread did, and it doesn’t quite add up from the muzzle velocity of the average AR load and the shutter speed NYT quoted. But there are a lot of factors at play
It would be a weird thing to photoshop and lie about given the inevitable scrutiny.
Not necessarily a photoshop. It could be a bug or bird at a different distance causing a forced perspective type thing.
That’s a good point, but in this case it looks like it’s the real deal.
I’ve seen careers ended over weirder, dumber shit, but if this was the unaltered version of what they posted I’d assume it was more likely than not real.
Yeah, a little off could just be a factor of different load, barrel length, etc.
I suspect their math was actually off when they used the head size as the frame of measurement. I think the angle makes the head longer in the picture, but I am far from qualified to understand the intricacies of this kind of math.
The NYTimes has an article about it here.
“It absolutely could be showing the displacement of air due to a projectile,” Mr. Harrigan said in an interview on Saturday night after reviewing the high-resolution images that Mr. Mills filed from the rally. “The angle seems a bit low to have passed through his ear, but not impossible if the gunman fired multiple rounds.”
Simple ballistic math showed that capturing a bullet as Mr. Mills likely did in a photo was possible, Mr. Harrigan said.
Mr. Mills was using a Sony digital camera capable of capturing images at up to 30 frames per second. He took these photos with a shutter speed of 1/8,000th of a second — extremely fast by industry standards.
…
“If the gunman was firing an AR-15-style rifle, the .223-caliber or 5.56-millimeter bullets they use travel at roughly 3,200 feet per second when they leave the weapon’s muzzle,’’ Mr. Harrigan said. “And with a 1/8,000th of a second shutter speed, this would allow the bullet to travel approximately four-tenths of a foot while the shutter is open.”
I did this in another thread. Using the values for the speed of a bullet from an AR-style rifle quoted from the NYT, and the shutter speed that the NYT photographer claimed, the streak is about 3x too long for the streak to only be the bullet.
In that comment I said that I was skeptical of what we were looking at. Now I wonder if part of the streak is also a refraction effect from the air displaced by the bullet, allowing the streak to be longer than the velocity*exposuretime calculation predicts? I’m not sure!
There were multiple shots
Still doesn’t change the direction when it’s a single shooter 🤷
Yes, but was this the bullet that hit him (so picture taken after he was hit), or a previous shot that missed?
Reports were he was shot from behind (initial witness testimony, at least). There’s more info out there on positioning now but I haven’t read it all
He was definitely hit from the front. Look at the layout of things.
NYT was reporting a supposed layout that would make this either a missed shot or the shot, but immediately after it hit
SO CLOSE
Incredibly lucky to survive. A few cms over and it would’ve been lights out.
This is the worst edging of my life
