In high school math class we got paired up for a worksheet and instead of doing any math we spent the hour listing the first 150 Pokemon in numerical order. Been chasing that high ever since
Sounds like the U.S.
Okay?
It was so over when I had to google Kangaskhan.
Look on the bright side, I just got the Genghis Khan pun.
Yeah but like where’s the pun
Is it just kangaroo plus Khan, and if so, whyPart of Fiction writing 101. The more things you need to 'effing name, the stupider the wordplay gets.
Lots of visual references to make those puns work on Pokemon designs usually.
Kanghaskhan (Garura in Japanese), is a giant Kangaroo thing with built-in laminar armor reminiscent of Mongolian make.
At least Kanghaskhan made it to the list of B-tier sound puns to go with the visuals (and Genghis was a ruler, keeping the pun from the Japanese name that is “Kangaroo Ruler”).
Not all Pokemon get the same wit applied to their puns, some get really groan worthy if examined haha.
Can’t forget what you never knew. Just don’t forget about Pikachu.
Gorebyss is disappointed 😞
I would simply fire up the ol’ 3DS (the best handheld console) and revisit any Pokemon game from Red and Blue to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
I adore S&M and I don’t know how I didn’t realize that was S&M until now! I missed out on so many jokes!
3 coconut dude
Eggtrio?
dunno it was like a tree with heads…
That’s like most of the evolutions
¹) one of them
²) three of them
Someone mentioned it below, but the non-evolved version is the many egg ones. Eggsecute? Spelling is probably wrong.
Executor? Pretty stems a pokemon is named after someone who handles deaf people affairs.
I’m not an expert, but it seems this Pokemon is called Hulk.
How could you forget the 151 original classics such as Eggxecutor, Valporene, and Voltorb?
It’s not your fault, there are way too many Pokemon these days.
Just throw the PokéRap on repeat again. It’ll come back to you in no time.
Charmeleon! Wartortle,
Mewtwo, Tentacruel, Aerodactyl,
Omanyte, Slowpoke…
That’s all I’ve got. I will shed a single tear in remembrance of happier days.
Honestly, the names of the newer Pokémon are so dumb that I never tried to remember. The old ones are cool and I’ll probably remember them for another decade.
Talonflame isn’t worse than Seel
Man, I honestly love the name okidogi though
First 5 generation gang
First gen gang!
I just tried to get through the original list and I have forgotten a lot more than I was expecting.
I got into Pokémon when the card game and anime first came to America. I was in jr high school at the time and collected so many of the original cards. Never finished my collection, though.
I got into the Pokémon craze at first, but stopped following it in my later years of high school. I was too busy preparing to be an adult, so I set it aside and forgot about it for years. I didn’t even know there were more than 151 Pokémon until over a decade later.
I learned some of the newer generations with Pokémon Go, but I still remember all of the original 151 Pokémon. The newer stuff is just weird to me.
EDIT: I never got into the games, even though they started releasing when I was a teenager. Pokémon Go was actually my first game in the franchise; although I watched my friends play the classic Red and Blue games back in the day.
I can name the first 251(gen 1 and 2) by heart and 3 by sight and name, but not by number. It gets a little easier when you realize Gen2 is only 100 pokemon, the smallest Gen. Celebi is #251 and you can work backwards to Mew.
Easy way to solve most gens if you have to fill out a blank sheet - The starters are always grass/water/fire in that order, so your first 9 are always solved. Then the 2 early game bugs(Butterfree and Beedrill/ledyba and spinarak) and HM rat (Rattata/sentret/zigzagoon)and then from there’s it’s wild west until the end. The pseudo-legendary evo of 3 are always before the legendaries, and theres usually about 3, followed by the 2 title characters plus their hidden legendary so that’s the back 9 solved for most gens.
There’s some new ones I like but fuck there’s over 1000 now. I’m happy just knowing up to 386.
Generations Vi, VII and VIII all had fewer than 100 new Pokemon.
Googled - G6 is 72, g7 is 88, gen 8 is 96
Looking at the lineups, they mostly create a slew of regional creatures, and then use older 'mon as filler for routes. Makes sense at this stage.
The Ultra Beasts & the Time shifted pokemon kinda screw up the last couple generations
You can name gen 3 by name alone?
