Ah, yes. Just like Jesus said… “If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn their house into fucking rubble.”

Egypt is really the elephant in the room for the Gaza Strip. It’s an open-air prison, sure, but Egypt holds one of the jail cell doors shut on their side.
Always love these hot takes. Like the Palestinians never thought about resource independence from Israel until Joe Internet came along.
Spoiler: Israel targets infrastructure in bombing raids. That includes desalination plants and power infrastructure.
Even if Gaza could somehow achieve energy independence through, say, cold fusion, Israel would never allow it because it removes one important lever of control.
More like a landowner living in their home, and a rich squatter parking their RV on the other guy’s backyard then slowly taking over the house.
These “neighbors” metaphors ignore the historical fact that Israel was given Palestinian land and then encroached further beyond their borders.
We gatekeeping liking the Fediverse now?
And you’re vastly underestimating Reddit’s user base’s willingness to simp for porn stars and billionaires.
The easy, low-cost solution is to build freight rail. But no, that’s communism and it doesn’t get a tech billionaire their extra billion.
This article is specifically about Australia. Globally, Netflix added 5.9 million subscribers after their password-sharing crackdown.
I hate to say it, but the crackdown worked exactly as intended.
Can we accept that neo-Nazism is a widespread issue that’s affecting most of the Western world? The Azov Battalion is clearly neo-Nazi, and so is the Wagner Group, who named their outfit after Hitler’s favorite composer. Meanwhile, U.S. groups like Proud Boys are borrowing heavily from the far-right playbook.
Nazis anywhere are a threat to peace everywhere. It’s almost like these fuckers all want us to fight to the death instead of living in peace.
This is how you make a military invasion turn against the invader. Without this sort of action, the invading population is easily convinced military action is justified. But disrupt their cozy lives and they’ll start questioning their government.
The more I use Lemmy apps (favorite is Infinity), the more I realize what an awful experience the official Reddit app is. It’s so sluggish in a subtle way, it makes me tired to scroll. Plus, there’s tons of clutter, nothing is where it should be (e.g. r/all is at the very bottom of the left slider menu), and the app behaves in weird little ways (e.g. if you unmute a video, all your videos are now unmuted even if they’re autoplaying in the feed).
Biggest offender is the ads. All over the feed and comments, created on purpose to blend in so you don’t immediately realize you’re being advertised to. But other than that, the official Reddit app is enshittification by a thousand little shitty design decisions.
Credible defense, comicbooks, and a bunch of local subs and language subs around the world as I travel around quite a bit. Some of these have a Fediverse presence but it’s not quite there yet. Rooting for them, though!
14 years redditor here.
I kept my account and still (rarely) interact with some niche subs. The bulk of my social activity is here now, and if these niche topics were represented on the Fediverse, I’d gladly move on.
So I guess, to Reddit, I don’t look like I’m truly gone since my account is still active somewhat. But my level of engagement has dramatically fallen.
The Western critique of the BRI is that it’s debt trap diplomacy, i.e. China loans money for development and hopes the beneficiaries can’t repay so they can “own” them in a diplomatic sense, or downright repo some of their critical assets.
That’s the criticism that Trump has levied against the BRI, but there are serious objections to this portrayal. Here’s one from a reputable Western source:

Fuck /r/place.
“Not sure, might be spilling nuclear secrets here, but fuck it, I really wanna reply to this Lemmy comment.”
