I’m right there with you. This is even more toxic than Reddit.
I’m right there with you. This is even more toxic than Reddit.
Rowling is an hell of a woman. She’s donated more money than we will ever earn and doesn’t dodge her taxes.
She lost her billionaire status a few years ago after donating between 160 to 200 million quid!
Say what you want about her views on gender, but she has done more good for the world than most.
Introduced an entire generation to reading. Millions of kids who weren’t big readers picked up lifetime habits!
Started or donated to many charities. Including the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland, The Maggie’s Centres for Cancer Care, Doctors Without Borders, and more. She founded the Children’s High Level Group, known as Lumos, which works to “end the systematic institutionalization of children across Europe and help them find safer, more caring places to live.” She has also contributed to various other charitable causes through her philanthropic trust, Volant.
Helped save female Afghani lawyers from the taliban.
Funded the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology clinic in Edinburgh.
And rather more contentiously, has stuck to her guns about the areas where she believes sex should take precedence over gender identity in the face of abuse, rape and death threats.
And now employment tribunals are ruling again and again that gender critical views are perfectly reasonable to hold and in fact are legally protected.
Monthly active users are 35% lower than July last year when Reddit turned off the external API. Just 42,188 now. Since then there are 45% fewer servers online. Average comments per month are up, which means fewer and fewer people are posting more and more. This is the definition of an online circlejerk. I’m glad you like it this way but normal people do not, and these stats will only get worse in time.
It’s worse than that. The politics is a far left echo chamber which appeals to a small number of chronically online but repels everyone else.
People should realise they are at risk of exposure to higher levels of lead than recommended.
This is because lead in fuel was legal until just a few decades ago. This means that for 70+ years, any houses near roads will have lead contamination in the soil.
About 60 percent of the eggs sold in the United States come from processors who participate in USDA’s grading service, voluntarily paying to have their eggs graded so the eggs can display a “USDA Grade A” or “AA” shield on their cartons. The grade is based on qualities that can be observed in the shell, yolk, and egg white when the egg is inspected with lights and other specialized equipment. Specifics on egg-grading criteria can be found here.
Egg processors who participate are required to spray-wash their eggs with warm water and use a sanitizing rinse and air-drying techniques specified by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS).

FYI multiple studies have found that there is no safety benefit to washing. It just looks nicer, and people think it’s safer.
It’s insufferable. Originally Lemmy looked promising but it’s basically just r/Politics everywhere now. If I wanted r/Politics I would have stayed on Reddit.
I think you’re right. I’ve been disappointed with how slowly hardware has been gaining AV1 support. Only this year’s Apple silicon supports it. The most current Apple TV does not. The current Nvidia Shield does not. I don’t think any smart TVs support it. Most Android phones do not. Chromecast 4K does not. I don’t remember HEVC support taking this long to proliferate.
“We should halt all aid to terrorists and terrorist states.” - very easy policy most people will agree on.
That and the sheer audacity to have a concert right next to Gaza was a recipe for disaster that Israel took advantage of for its own ambitions.
It’s not like the Israeli government intentionally set up a music festival next door to Hamas to get participants killed. Your implication is incredibly nefarious. This was a privately run festival full of people who were advocating for Palestinian rights, set up more than 3km away from the border. How much of a buffer zone between Gaza and Israel are you suggesting there should be? 5km? 10km? For context, the width of Gaza is as narrow as 4.5km.
They’ve been mostly locked in place since 8th October. There’s no way for them to regroup and refortify with Israel dropping bombs on anything which looks like a terrorist. A ceasefire would let them regroup in civilian buildings, which I think we all want to avoid. They have to qualms with using children as human shields, so we need to keep the terrorists pinned down and get away from those children.
Well, not entirely. We can move out to the wilderness and live off the land with very minimal interaction with civilization. We don’t because iPhones and medicine are too good to give up.
It’s pretty bad. I doubt anyone downvoting you even knows what the Laffer curve is.

The Jerusalem Post can now confirm based on verified photos of the bodies that the reports of babies being burnt and decapitated in Hamas’s assault on Kfar Aza are correct.
The photos were shown to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit to Israel by the Public Diplomacy Directorate in the Prime Minister’s Office.
It happened. Are you willing to amend your position now?
Both of those statements are congruent. The fact that you think they’re not is a damning indictment of the American school system.
Sure they do. They can move away from the terrorists and allow Israel to kill them. Most of Gaza is farmland. There are lots of places to go where there aren’t terrorists.
The majority are children how can they leave?
Most of their parents are either terrorists or support terrorists. They’re currently using their own children as human shields. What do you propose we do about that? Forcibly remove the children from Gaza? I’m sure terrorists sympathisers like you would be perfectly happy with that plan.
We don’t have enough houses and schools for everyone as is. If you’re saying we need even more, no one is arguing with you. We’re arguing that, given reality, adding more unskilled and illiterate migrants makes all of our problems much worse.
You argue that protecting the border is impossible, and I couldn’t disagree more. Countries have been successfully protecting their borders for millennia. If you’re arguing that Germany just happens to be the most incompetent country in all of history, I strongly disagree. This is only a matter of political will. It’s only a matter of time until AfD is elected, because successive governments have refused to protect the border. When they’re in power, they’ll reduce the refugee quota to zero and expel everyone who illegally immigrated. Then they’ll restrict migration from countries from which migrants are overrepresented in crime and unemployment. People will cheer.
Germany (and most Western countries) have a few short years to make realistic concessions to their people before AfD and other far right parties take charge entirely. Decide if you want compromise, or the worst possible outcome. Those are your only choices right now.
That’s not a dictionary, friend. That’s an advocacy website. Do you not understand the distinction?
Merriam-Webster: a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence
Princeton: a person who comes to a country where they were not born in order to settle there
Cambridge: a person who has come to a different country in order to live there permanently
They will have a higher literacy level than someone fleeing Afghanistan. It’s pretty fucking obvious.
For the second time, no one is conflating economic migrants with refugees except you. I’m merely explaining that they’re both immigrants, as per all the reputable dictionaries.
The responses have classic “I run Arch” energy. It’s never the fault of the software. It’s always the fault of the user. Ignore them. This is terrible UX and should be criticised. She did absolutely nothing wrong.
