I’d like to upvote your post but I don’t think it will work. Seems broken at the moment ;-)
i jinxed it, it froze just when i was trying to post “is it just me or is lemmy.world faster after the upgrade”
all in all, i’m grateful for everyone who are hosting this instance. thank you!
Took me quite a few attempts to get mine up and in-between had to check if it had gone up without me knowing.
All teething problems though, all great signs
Yes, it is just growing pains and it will not be forever.
Guys, stop recommending the massive servers when lemmy hasn’t been optimized for that yet. The entire point of decentralization is spreading out and still being connected; let’s not waste that advantage.
Use and recommend smaller instances instead like lemm.ee, lemmy.one, and vlemmy.net; they’ve been around for years and have been upgraded for the surge of users too
And spread out the popular communities. Right now everyone is trying to create every community in every instance. What should have happened is each instance should have a specialty. Have a news instance, gaming instance, asklemmy instance, etc.
Integrating lemmyverse.net’s functionality into lemmy itself like in this github issue would fix that by letting users see the actual sub count/activity of each community and incentivise them to join the most popular one.
This needs to be done asap imo; lemmy’s discoverability is really bad right now and not user friendly at all
Or country specific instances, if exists.
Growing pains happen and I’m happy to be here to experience the growth of a (hopefully) new successful community! I honestly love all the updates bc it just means that there are real people here who care about the user experience and growing the overarching lemmy experience.
- (From a tipsy prior Reddit lurker trying to actually contribute for once)
For real! I hope the devs and everyone else involved know that growing pains are fine and totally acceptable. I know I’m not upset in the slightest - if anything it’s more fun because some stuff might be broken or there’s more posts to read about how the update didn’t work entirely or broke something else. It’s kinda fascinating to me as someone who knows very little when it comes to servers and hosting and whatnot.
Happy to have you here! I just make sure no one posts boobs or balls and plays semi nice together. The real stars are the admins and the devs. Ruud is the big guy on top making sure things keep rolling.
[ stops to check patreon subscription. Considers doubling it. ]
Ruud will appreciate any and everything that comes his way. I know his equipment purchases have grown lately.
Thanks for all of your hard work. Seriously, something that explodes in users this fast is hard to keep pace with. It kind of reminds of me old reddit, a little more wild west feeling, a bit more fun and free.
Where do we sign up to moderate? I’d love to help this community grow.
It’s prime time now and I had to switch over to this account on another instance just to have the feed load in less than 10 minutes.
Pretty good benefit, though. I thought the stuff hosted on a buggy/slowed instance would be just as messed up, but switching to a different instance really does feel like a singular website that was fixed. Night and day difference.
That’s good to know. I have seen it improve over the course of the day. I gave up on 4 posts with pictures because I would get the infinite spinning wheel, hit refresh, and then some of my others would show up I had attempted previously. Tomorrow is a new day, and my hopes are high.

Thank you. If you would like to, reach out to @Hurts to ask them. I am not the top mod in this community so I will defer to them for the moment (although for some reason it is showing my username first in the mod list, at least on my browser page).
We thank you for many things over here - and very few of us expect Lemmy to run smoothly with the reddit refugees coming over.
I, for one, am thankful for text limits not being a thing!
However having to select my language on every comment is a bit… meh? Hopefully that can be something delegated to a user setting drop down down the line… but this is still Beta, so I’m not busting anyone’s chops over it.
I have stopped selecting a language on my comments and things seem to be ok. I guess if you can see this, than it is.
Ah, that’s good to know!
I put my community to English/Espanol as my coauthor is fluent in Spanish - but I hope other than that it’s just a hold over.
If the community is “The Guardian Temple” I can see all the posts on it.
Thank you! Glad to see it’s working, and yes it is.
Already seeing some stuff superior to reddit (post length, thumbnail attachment, etc)

Yes, upvoting has been one of the issues I have experienced on both mobile and desktop. Funny enough, your comment duplicated.
How can one contribute to supporting Lemmy servers? Donations? Patreon?
On the front page of Lemmy.world for me are two links, one being here: https://patreon.com/mastodonworld
Please double check this link before sending any money, it is not an endorsement from myself or the mod team.

writing a complete proper backend for the whole Lemmy fediverse would be the best way to help. waiting a bit and being understanding of outages, bugs etc would be the second best way.

I’m incredible when it comes to waiting
It’s still an order of magnitude more responsive and reliable than reddit ever was.
Times, they are a changing. And changing takes time.
I’d just like to remind everyone that lemmy.world is not Lemmy. Lemmy is not having any load issues at all - that’s one of the advantages of federation. Some instances are having load issues, and I’m sure most of them will sort it out soon.
Actually reminded me to upload some nice photos - good luck getting everything up and running properly!
