I don’t get why someone downvoted your comment. I don’t really have a “home town” either. Place of birth? Yes, bur I kinda grew up all over.I don’t know the name of the city I was born in. The city name on my birth certificate is outdated. It’s been changed due to political shifts. I did try to read it but I can’t pronounce it at all. I’d have to look it up

Spain: “No, we cannot agree to those terms.”

Shakira’s council: “then we shall throw in a gigantic statue of Shakira on top.”

          Spain: “…please don’t.”

Shakira’s council: “You got yourself a deal!”

She recently went on trial in Spain and reached a plea deal to avoid prison. She was charged with tax evasion and all sorts of fraud. She survived the case, but who knows if this happened other times and in other countries, so she really needs to get her house in order

Spain has weird laws for tax evasion which is why you see accused celebrities (Ronaldo, Messi etc) from time to time. Besides I don’t think it’s the VIP who are calling the shots on their accounting. They probably just tell their account firm to do their job and it does badly and the celebrity gets caught up in the whole thing which makes the headlines.

Accountants don’t do tax evasion. Tax lawyers do.

No, rich people avoid taxes, that’s why you see them from time to time.

A plaque at the foot of the statue praises the artist for her “hips that do not lie, a unique talent, a voice that moves masses”.

I mean…. Come on. The joke writes itself. I can’t be the only one to have seen it.

That hair is going to be such a pigeon poop magnet, yikes.

It’s a good thing it’s not portrayed looking up, or it would be soooo much worse.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Before the unveiling of the new statue, Shakira hit the news several times this year - most notably when she released a song about her former partner, ex-footballer Gerard Piqué, which broke YouTube records in Latin America.

The unveiling of the statue on Tuesday was attended by Shakira’s parents, William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll, as well as by the mayor of Barranquilla.

A plaque at the foot of the statue praises the artist for her “hips that do not lie, a unique talent, a voice that moves masses”.

It also refers to her charity work through a foundation she created called “Pies descalzos”, Spanish for “bare feet”, which promotes early childhood development.

Shakira thanked the sculptor, Yino Márquez, and his students for the “enormous artistic talent” they had demonstrated by creating the bronze.

The year 2023 was a successful one for the singer, who swept up three Latin Grammy awards, one of them with fellow Colombian artist Karol G.
