I was born in 1989 and the math is HARD some days.

You’ll get people ridiculing you for not remembering your own age but believe you me, you’re not alone in the struggle. My husband and I started dating in 2000 so that’s awfully convenient.

My wife and I started dating in 2000 as well. Got married in 2001. The math is in my favor for remembering how long we’ve been together and our wedding anniversary.

Now our ages are a bit harder. '77 and '79.

My younger son has it easy. Born in 2010.

I never had a problem when I was younger, but as I get older (I’m not even that old) it gets harder. Not REALLY hard or anything, but having to pause to remember how old I am sometimes makes me feel a bit slow.

I mean, you’re right, but birth month counts too…I don’t know about OP but that always throws me off as my bday isn’t until Dec.

It’s not that you can’t figure it out, it’s just being embarrassed when you’re wrong.

Dude, I’m lucky if I remember what “today year” even is, much less the math! Time got weird after 2020…

I was lucky and was born in 1990. I’ve always appreciated that all you have to do to figure out my age is add 10 to the year. Like, when it’s 2054, I know I’ll be 64.

On the other hand, it makes it easier for the people who have to check your ID when buying alcohol. Any birth year that begins with 19 is automatically old enough.

They do have to calculate it, it’s just the calculation is a bit easier for them.

I understand that people are scared of “new” math, but for a 1989 birthday just take the last too digits of the current year, add ten, then add one if you’ve already had a birthday this year, e.g. 23+10+1=34. Almost the same math I used to count change when I worked retail.

… you lost my brain at 1989.

Try 77 sometime. The only reason I knew my mom’s age is she was born in 57. Occasionally I’d even have to work the other way to figure out how old I was!

My kids were exactly 18 months apart, same day, one in 1999 and one in 2001. Math made (mostly) easy, baby.

I was just telling a friend that being born on a decade makes it easy for me to keep track, whereas I’ve heard my brother ask his wife to confirm his age.

My exact age is almost never relevant in my day-to-day life, I pretty much only get reminded of it on my actual birthday and don’t think much about it for the rest of the year. So if somebody asks for my age, usually I’ll be off by a year or two and my wife will need to correct me, because for some reason she remembers.

Wait till you get a little older and start having a hard time remembering how old you are.

All becomes a blur at some point

If you think about your age every day, you are the stupid one around here. Or maybe you are just 13 and it’s easy because you eagerly await the next year so you can be treated a little bit more like an adult so you count the days.
