This “immigrants with criminal records” bullshit has got me fuming.
Straight-up glazing over how many criminals were born here and live here and the multitudes of criminals here that haven’t been caught. Commiting crimes doesn’t disqualify a person from being human. Come on.
It’s not like they’re only going after people with criminal records. They just make sure always to mention that some have criminal records in order to associate immigrants with criminality in people’s minds. They will do the same with every other group they target. See also their scare tactics about trans people and bathrooms. There is no actual problem around trans people’s use of bathrooms, but the Republicans certainly want you to imagine there is, so they do everything they can to get people to imagine trans people do something odd in bathrooms.
Don’t fall for these tactics. They’re the same ones the Nazis used against Jews in the 1930s-40s.
They’re the same ones the Nazis used against Jews in the 1930s-40s.
And the same ones the Nazis used against trans people and immigrants in the 1930s-40s, too, for that matter.
Like, what they’re doing isn’t even just ‘reminiscent’ of Nazis; it’s literally identical. There is no wiggle room or superficial difference to seize upon to try to deny it, although I’m sure the fascist apologist concern trolls will still try.
The vast, vast majority of violent criminals in the U.S. are citizens.
I mean trump released a bunch of criminals. Its very obvious this isn’t about reducing crime
Saw this headline this morning and it kind of made my day. Whether you want harsh punishment of illegal immigration or not, this Gestapo shit is a much bigger problem, in my humble opinion.
The Trump administration is seeking to crack down on illegal immigration. The president made immigration a central theme of his successful campaign for office, and Americans largely support his mass deportation plans.
Could you suck his dick any harder?
Time to build bookcases in our homes and workplaces to hide parts of the house so our fellow humans have a safe place away from the hands of the fascists.
Here’s an example:
I’m not religious in the slightest, but if there’s any one sect of Christianity I find remotely “BASED”, it’s the Quakers. Instances like this, the fact that they’re anti-war as well, that’s just cool as hell. They seem to be the only group that practices what they preach. Also, John K Samson from The Weakerthans is a Quaker, so that’s a bonus in my book
It’s interesting being anti-war here in the US. Everyone hates us. Both sides.
Nixon was also a Quaker. Generally they’re nice people though.
Being a bit pedantic here, but the president cannot change the law as the article asserts.
Internal US News is NOT World.
Here’s a link to the actual story on Newsweek.
Further the release from the org doing the suit, Democratic forward on behalf of several Yearly Meetings and more.
“Can you believe this!? Oatmeal. I’m being sued by oatmeal. The left has lost their minds! They have nothing so they have oatmeal sue me. I’m signing an executive order that outlaws oatmeal now. We’re going to deport all the horses too. Long faced communists.”
The Quakers still exist?
Excuse me, they are called “the religious society of friends” which is awesome.
Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
The more noise a religious group makes, the more dodgy it tends to be. The USA is full of loud, hateful Christian groups. Quakers are quiet.
You might be thinking of Shakers. I used to confuse them too. The Shakers all died out because they all took a vow of celibacy. Morons.
Oh you’re completely right! I mixed up the two.
Somewhere around 80k in North America. A bunch more in Africa, for some reason.
There are exactly two Quakers left: Brother Arnold Hadd and Sister June Carpenter in Sabbathday Lake, Maine.
definitively yes. where would they have gone?
Same place the Calvinists went.
Not really, there are some Reformed Christians in Pennsylvania but they’re not particularly concentrated there the way Quakers are.
Calvinists are one of the biggest sets of Christians. Presbyterians and Reformed Baptists are both Calvinist in nature
Yep. I attended a Quaker wedding a while back. There is no officiant. For the wedding everyone just sits there staring at the bride and groom, and you’re supposed to just stand up and talk if the spirit moves you. It felt very odd for us non-quakers in attendance. I don’t remember how they decided it was over. I know there was a long period of total quiet that had me starting to think I should stand up and say something, but thankfully someone broke the silence.
My grandfather was a Quaker. He wouldn’t beat my father, which is a shame because my father really needed some good beatings. My grandmother wasn’t a Quaker, and she would break yardsticks over his ass often enough that she bought boxes of them. However, it clearly didn’t have enough impact.
I also live near a Friend’s Meeting House, and there are a bunch of well-established Quaker Schools in the area. If you can afford to pay for a private education for your children, they are supposed to be excellent.
My grandfather was a Quaker too, and my grandmother was not as well. She was Amish but grew up kind of outside the Amish community, she spoke only Pennsylvania German into her teens when she learned English.
Much like your dad, mine could use some beatings.
Of course. Did you think all those oats grow on trees?
Have you never seen a porridge tree?
